There were talks about escorting Pelosi's plane into Taiwan airspace with fighters, shooting down Pelosi's airplane even, yet China was cautious, smart, and proportionately to their salami slicing with its own salami slicing (routine air exercises). What I am saying is the war hyperventilation leading up to Pelosi visit was hysterical level and predictably ended without a bang.

Taiwan may be untenable as of now, which really started with the Pelosi visit.

A total blockade of the major Taiwan ports is completely doable, if or when it is required.

These air patrols sure looks like complete air dominance. Have to be expected, as Taiwan is outgunned, by numbers and by better fighters in the air.

Establish a corridor of full control of the sea lanes, and that is done by air, then the PLA can land anywhere they chose. Wipe out all defenses, then land.

If the PLA establishes a corridor that they control from the mainland side to the Taiwan side of the strait, then it is very difficult for the Americans to dislodge that. They can try, but over time, they all will get killed, and China will do the 3rd, 4th, 5th wave of that.

All from the Pelosi visit.

Pakistan having their elections. Apparently, the PTI is in the leads and supposedly by large margins and the ECP issued orders to start releasing results in 30 mins.

Keep in mind. They kept election results hidden for 6-7 hours including shutting down mobile communications and the internet under the pretence of terrorism.

I am of the firm belief that the existing setup of the UN (with a handful of countries possessing veto power) is itself discriminatory, unequal, oppressive, and conducive to neo colonialism. While the order itself "apparently" aims to create global equality, end oppression and discrimination. The aim and (unchangeable) reality are contradictory.

The West in particular is caught in a Catch 22 situation (not the first time). When it suits them, they trap their enemies/opposition with UN; when it doesn't suit them, they themselves defy UN without penalty. A better name for UN is United Colonies.

In the case of Israel, a big Western investment that solved the

, the West has to decide between two polar opposite options with no middle ground:
  1. Support the UN system, that they created, by penalizing Israel for violations.
  2. Support Israel and show the world that their UN system is a farce.
I believe that ^^ is why Western leaders may show some contempt for Israel, telling it to calm down because it is hurting their global colonial order, while doing nothing to penalize it. They've chosen option #1 which carries the risk of delegitimizing the UN order itself.
Veto exist because going around them in global affair is practically impossible. Although arguably UK and France should get the boot.

If Pelosi's visit were kind of irrelevant or a "distraction" as you say, then you wouldn't have all those PLA exercises afterward as a response.

Nor would you have constant military maneuvers around Taiwan if Taiwan's recent rhetoric, US arms sales, etc, were also "distractions".

What would you say the same when Biden or Trump visited the island after the following elections in the US for example? Is it also a "distraction"?

If you had those exercises after Pelosi's visit failing to deter, then what would happen during Kamala Harris's or Biden's visit, what would be the next step for China to respond with?

Could the US "interpret" that response for China as enough to warrant their own military "protection" of Taiwan, as Biden said they would do?

There is a point when something becomes too much. It's not that point yet, but it's sure coming soon. You people are way too casual.

By this point, it's way more likely that a war over Taiwan between China and the US would break out in this decade than it won't.

In a world where all this is going in Ukraine, and the Middle East, it sounds very likely that something around Taiwan would also break out.

As we see the US is not backing down from anything and they made it clear with their actions. They are just waiting for their elections to finish.

They secured Lao's victory in Taiwan, just after the US presidential elections finish you will see a new exponential increase in provocations.
Anyone who has a brain knows the US is trying doing everything to make Taiwan into Ukraine. So the end result is expected to be the same with the red line being crossed.

The difference is when? Do it now or later? China thinks later is ok assuming the US 100% wants to go through with it.

The US may start it, but China will do everything to be the one to end it.

Public pressure for refunds is mounting against the organiser of a football match featuring Inter Miami in Hong Kong as a lawmaker has threatened to take complaints to court within a week if Tatler Asia failed to give a proper explanation over star Lionel Messi’s failure to play.

Highly publicized friendly match in which Messi failed to play at all and has since explained that he was unwell. Both HK government and fans spent a lot of money on the event.

Now, if Messi had decided on the day that he was unfit to play, nobody was going to force him to. People are taking issue with his behaviour throughout the event, especially in comparison to the subsequent friendly in Japan in which he played. In HK, his contempt towards the event, the fans and the organizers came across loudly.

I hope Messi isn't being POLITICAL with his actions/inaction in H.K. because his demeanor from the video while in H.K. looked like he's contemptible of the place, and people. That would be unfortunate and hugely dissappointing at the same time. These damn Anglo wannabe seems to have a messianic complex about them from regular average loser, business people, academics, to athletes.

He showed the same scowl face when he played in the mainland last year. Compared to the rest of his teammates/countrymen that were far more enthusiastic than he was. What a pathetic bleeping little shit. I am not surprised if this b word of an athlete adores that libertarian nut job of a president his country just elected. With his riches, maybe he can and should help his country's gargantuan inflation and sinking economy. F this guy.
