I have become numb to this kind of thing. The leadership will always only repeat those useless words. Do they really fear that war will expose the weakness of the army?

The public cannot always support policies that lack hope.Political legitimacy is not a property that can be squandered at will.
The true hawks in China still lack influence. Those "nationalists" only focus on ancient costumes and engage in ridiculous cosplay of ancient costumes.
Strekov is a dangerous opportunist, but we don't even have such people.
We have always been taught to believe in the leadership and decisions of the higher ups, but now they still cannot demonstrate a clear determination to uphold national unity.
The leaders who dared to make great decisions and take the initiative to fight for national security are no longer alive, and now only ordinary people lead us.
Welcome to the real world, where you can't take any politicians (Western or Chinese) too seriously, or else you will be disappointed. Heck, we will be in WW3 already if we took every slight over Taiwan too seriously, but the clear redlines 1) no nukes, 2) no US bases, 3) no formal independence are the main one to worry about. Everything else is a distraction, like Pelosi visit, trainers, arms sales, etc..

No. There are no costs to speak of to the United States. The political adjudication of Taiwan is broadly irrelevant since China has more economic and physical damage and the U.S. can safely watch war while eating popcorn from a control room in Colorado Springs.

The public doesn’t care since war is cost less and risk free.
Wait, do you even know what you're talking about? The cost to the US from watching the PRC take over the ROC is the total loss of confidence in American power in Asia. This will herald to the world that America's will in Asia is supplanted by China's. So if they've decided that they cannot successfully militarily intervene and just have to watch this happen, the "popcorn" they'll be eating will probably be harder to swallow than if they were dingleberry flavored.

1. I was referring to the present day
2. Any energy shock is negligible today since the U.S. is a net oil exporter
3. The U.S. is much wealthier than it was in the 1970s
US is much poorer than 1970s thats for sure due to poor human resource development. yes it can attract foreign talent but it need alot money printing to pay even higher income to the to best and outsource the rest causing inflation for most of its population. US keep afloat as long it can dig ground regardless of environment and allow mass migration.
US aviation cannot survive without Europe and Japan. Aviation should be 100% US with redundancies of multiple supply chains in each aircraft category due to its travel dependence and maintaining its military power. This second country that is getting this weopon system. I am sure they have looked at quality and reliability of products.

I dare say after the war, no westerner in Asia will ever be safe.
Hmmm, one could add Israeli to the list as well as the only thing I learnt is that as a collective they seem to enjoy bombing/butchering innocent civilians including the elderly and babies while posting troll faces and using the whole anti-semitism argument as the go to defense of choice when people point out the obvious. Man, for what they have done to the Palestinians, they truly don’t deserve peace of any kind, and anyone that tries to bring up the holocaust thing, should seriously consider the fact that such a defense has long since lost its meaning the moment they tried to pull the colonialist crap on the Palestinians for last half a century or more

By violating pretty much every international law, showing to the world openly that they simply do not give a shit, one could argue that if the tables were turned in the future, they would also be excluded from any protectionist statute established by international organizations.

I am of the firm belief that the existing setup of the UN (with a handful of countries possessing veto power) is itself discriminatory, unequal, oppressive, and conducive to neo colonialism. While the order itself "apparently" aims to create global equality, end oppression and discrimination. The aim and (unchangeable) reality are contradictory.

The West in particular is caught in a Catch 22 situation (not the first time). When it suits them, they trap their enemies/opposition with UN; when it doesn't suit them, they themselves defy UN without penalty. A better name for UN is United Colonies.

In the case of Israel, a big Western investment that solved the

, the West has to decide between two polar opposite options with no middle ground:
  1. Support the UN system, that they created, by penalizing Israel for violations.
  2. Support Israel and show the world that their UN system is a farce.
I believe that ^^ is why Western leaders may show some contempt for Israel, telling it to calm down because it is hurting their global colonial order, while doing nothing to penalize it. They've chosen option #1 which carries the risk of delegitimizing the UN order itself.
