Broadly: the U.S. is a very wealthy country with very little international exposure (from trade, investment, financial linkages, or otherwise) and said wealth is prophylactic - the U.S. simply does not have noticeable downsides to any foreign policy action or economic shock originating in a foreign countryNo. There are no costs to speak of to the United States. The political adjudication of Taiwan is broadly irrelevant since China has more economic and physical damage and the U.S. can safely watch war while eating popcorn from a control room in Colorado Springs.
The public doesn’t care since war is cost less and risk free.
