No. There are no costs to speak of to the United States. The political adjudication of Taiwan is broadly irrelevant since China has more economic and physical damage and the U.S. can safely watch war while eating popcorn from a control room in Colorado Springs.

The public doesn’t care since war is cost less and risk free.
Broadly: the U.S. is a very wealthy country with very little international exposure (from trade, investment, financial linkages, or otherwise) and said wealth is prophylactic - the U.S. simply does not have noticeable downsides to any foreign policy action or economic shock originating in a foreign country

I don't think a military officer will be allowed to just buy a ticket and get on the boat.

He is a political refugee fleeing from oppression behind the Green Curtain. We should celebrate his bravery.

I don't think we should celebrate stupid acts...
Allegedly he did this because he was having relationship problems.

I'm more impressed with this guy's plans, even if he did it for the money

Why can't a military officer be allowed to buy a ticket? I don't personally know, but do they have any checks for these kinds of things?

It’s impressive how much blatantly wrong claims you have managed to make in such a short paragraph.
