I hope Messi isn't being POLITICAL with his actions/inaction in H.K. because his demeanor from the video while in H.K. looked like he's contemptible of the place, and people. That would be unfortunate and hugely dissappointing at the same time. These damn Anglo wannabe seems to have a messianic complex about them from regular average loser, business people, academics, to athletes.
Considering that a ticket cost fucking 5000 dollars yeah I can assume that.

Highly publicized friendly match in which Messi failed to play at all and has since explained that he was unwell. Both HK government and fans spent a lot of money on the event.

Now, if Messi had decided on the day that he was unfit to play, nobody was going to force him to. People are taking issue with his behaviour throughout the event, especially in comparison to the subsequent friendly in Japan in which he played. In HK, his contempt towards the event, the fans and the organizers came across loudly.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was planned. He plays for inter Miami which is an American club. Suarez and Busquets also didn't play.

If you read between the lines, US is trying to do everything to kill HK. Despite virtue signalling in 2019, they deep down are butthurt about their defeat and are now acting like bad losers. I guess this is why China says it's not enough you defeat your enemies, you must go to their roots and pulled them out so they never come back. Otherwise this is what happens.

From changing made in HK to made in China, HK sanctions, attacking the stock market, media slander and now this, you can see what they are trying to do. Taylor Swift didn't come to HK and they tried to say big stars don't come to HK anymore.

But in 2019, they laughed at China thinking it could kill off China so I'm not sure why they think they can do better. Soros, Ackman and other hedge fund guys failed. If HK is still alive, the US will have done what China couldn't have, make the HK people pick the Chinese side over the west.

Maybe one day it will be revealed he was instructed to. But by then no one will care.

Also, those H.K. supremacists who always looked down upon mainlanders as country bumpkins, uncouth, despised Mandarin language can now feel how to be discriminated and looked down upon by a dude who's good at kicking a ball. Most of us Asians/Chinese tend to bend over backwards from being treated like s..t from people and countries that deserve a good ass whooping. Which is why in my opinion they don't have any second thoughts on beating/discriminating Asians since we mostly bow down our heads and avoid conflict. On the other hand, we're so quick to be critical towards our fellows for trying to rock the boat or causing trouble. Some of us have even ate up the western fairy tales regarding their sacred rules based order lol

Broadly: the U.S. is a very wealthy country with very little international exposure (from trade, investment, financial linkages, or otherwise) and said wealth is prophylactic - the U.S. simply does not have noticeable downsides to any foreign policy action or economic shock originating in a foreign country
It seems that paper wealth generated through financial engineering doesn't really give you a very high quality of life. While the US is one of the wealthiest large countries, its quality of life as measured by life expectancy, healthy life expectancy, maternal and infant mortality, PISA score etc are lagging behind many developed countries. Even China, a developing country, overtook the US in healthy life expectancy. On the other hand, I'm wondering how big a role foreign capitals played during the dot.com crisis in 2000 and the subprime crisis in 2008. Furthermore, I don't think the US dollar as a reserve currency is preordained.

Biden will make a mockery of "democracy" in the US if he insists to be the Democratic presidential candidate.

This post deserves today's vomiting gif.

Welcome to the real world, where you can't take any politicians (Western or Chinese) too seriously, or else you will be disappointed. Heck, we will be in WW3 already if we took every slight over Taiwan too seriously, but the clear redlines 1) no nukes, 2) no US bases, 3) no formal independence are the main one to worry about. Everything else is a distraction, like Pelosi visit, trainers, arms sales, etc..
The development of the situation will not always be under the control of these "visionary individuals". Just like the absurd drama of "buying Diaoyu Islands" in 2012, with just a gentle push, the accumulated conflict between the two countries can be completely erupted.

Before that, people to people exchanges had been full of gunpowder. When the Chinese who would use the Internet saw the extreme contempt, arrogance and hatred of Japanese netizens for China, I realized that the future might lead to war again. Only the government is still futile in wooing Japan, but obviously they have no understanding of the Japanese stubbornness and arrogance.

In the end, the development of the matter led to a comprehensive confrontation, and there would never be any "maintenance of the status quo".

Taiwan is the same, does anyone really think this boring turn-based game will continue? The current situation is something that can be changed. If you don't take the initiative to change it, your opponent will also choose to take the initiative to change it.
Those military bravado are of no value because I have not yet seen a fundamental change in policy.
He showed the same scowl face when he played in the mainland last year. Compared to the rest of his teammates/countrymen that were far more enthusiastic than he was. What a pathetic bleeping little shit. I am not surprised if this b word of an athlete adores that libertarian nut job of a president his country just elected. With his riches, maybe he can and should help his country's gargantuan inflation and sinking economy. F this guy.
The Internet in China has discussed this matter for two days, and one interesting point is that Argentina is just a country with nothing but white skin. The only thing that can support their confidence is the sense of racial superiority brought by being white.

Shouldn't be too hard if the whole of UN is complied to act against them.

UNSC veto system is a technical apartheid.

Apartheid in what sense? Should Nauru and Palau have as much power in global affair as China and US?

UNSC represents the countries with the most power in the world. Because power is the determinant in world affairs. If this is not fairness, I don't know what other kind of fairness are you looking for.

If you want to get respect and make your words matter, then get powerful. Or stay silent and obey. This is how the world works.

Life expectancy in the United States is negatively causal for wealth because the same risk-loving attitudes (ex., capital markets, entrepreneurship, and low regulation) that cause the U.S. to be wealthy also contribute to bad health outcomes (ex., cars and guns) and because wealth itself causes worse health outcomes (ex., affordable junk food, vehicular injury, and pollution).
PISA score etc are lagging behind many developed countries.
PISA scores aren’t directly comparable because the U.S. has a universal academic track for high school, while nearly every other country separates high school into vocational and academic tracks. The sampling frame for U.S. PISA scores is for all adolescents, not for a top 40%. The U.S. having far more adversely selected students still outperforming half of the developed countries shows both wealth (in that the U.S. can afford universal academic secondary education) and effective program administration (adversely selected American cohorts outperform positively selected European cohorts)

I will have to say, Putin agreeing to give a 2-hour interview to Tucker Carlson was genius and has gotten Russia a massive soft power boost in the West. It reminds me of those days when China's CPC didn't even have relations with the U.S., but Mao would selectively give interviews with proven friendly Western journalists like Edgar Snow (author of "Red Star Over China") and effectively get his message out. An example from 1965:

In the sense that UNSC members are above the law of UN due to their veto ability. It's not rocket science. If Nauru and Palau can commit genocide, they can be penalized. But if UNSC does it, they can veto any attempt to penalize them.
