Could have been worse. If it had happened in Japan, the guy might have received an official apology instead.

Japan forced (i say force since there were outrage from US politicians that the guy was jailed) to release naval guy that killed 2 people in Japan after he crashed into them with his car.

"U.S. Navy doctors also concluded that Alkonis had experienced acute mountain sickness"

I don't buy that he suddenly lost conciounsis from acute mountain sickness, more like he drove like a moron and caused an crash. The news make it like he was at really high elevation like 13000ft (the peak). The car tourist stop is only at 7500 feet. AMS usually starts around that elevation but not severe with that light time exposure (he left after lunch) and minimal physical activity. The wife said he was "fine" and it happen sudden. Yeah, that is not reality in my experience. You start feeling it with headaches, nausea, dehydration... and he would of been cranky and complaining with those symptoms

There's still sober, thoughtful analysis and geopolitical analysts in America: Graham Allison. The man just posted his consise observation on the state of western/American China "analysis" especially, the ghost-written politico article stating spectacularly that Xi Jinping has embarked on "STALIN LIKE PURGE" while the WESTERN WORLD was distracted with what's happening in Palestine.

How can America succeed, or would even come close in dealing with China when most of their analysis are based on copiums, hopiums, and wishful-thinking. That China will simply follow the recipes, script as they had exactly written down from the likes of Gordon Chang, Peter Zeihan, Gina Raymondo etc...

Americans have been told time and again they alone won the cold war against the Soviet Union and their "victory" were based off on the false narrative and fictitous stories of FREEDOM, DEMOCRACY, HUMAN RIGHTS and the beauty of American exceptionalism. American leadership in American defense establishment didn't even realize that U.S.S.R. was already decaying in the 1970s, the C.I.A. did not foresee the collapse of the Soviet Union. But when the unforeseen collapse occured, the Americans from top to bottom patted themselves in the back and created stories to sell to their already indoctrinated masses from within and without how America saw, came, and conquered COMMUNISM away.

Which is why the same blue prints, scripts, and narrative that convinced themselves worked against the U.S.S.R. will work hand in glove with China as well. After all, both entities share the same "Political Description of COMMUNISM" hence what work with the goose (Russia) will work with the gander (China).

The irony is that they don't take there own advice. One of the often told stories is that the US ratchet up military spending forcing the Soviets to do as well which was one large contributor of their collapse. But guess who is doing the same today? Military/veterens/national security (1.5 T) composes about 1/3 of tax revenues (4-5 trillion). US debt interest is nearing 1 trillion a year as well ... Seems like the US will be borrowing Trillions every year to keep a float.

The real reason is they don't understand why they are powerful. If China collapse today on its own, US will convince themselves overpriced health care is the reason they succeeded and China didn't. Then they will double down on something stupid to accelerate its own decline.

Where's U.S. and E.U. on this alleged Lebanon operation that's increasingly seen as forthcoming by the I.D.F.?

Tbh I can only see China as being ok or for such a development. Of course, they will oppose it in the UN. But the additional pressure on Israel and US is exactly what is needed.

Lebanon being invaded also fully opens up the front to receiving full scale Russian heavy arms, while China can provide light arms and intel support.

Achieving "from the river to the sea" is imho not the most beneficial outcome for China, especially not if rumors that Israel has WMDs are correct and there may be incidents due to total chaos within the colony. Instead, China merely needs to weaken Israel, destroy the Israeli public's trust in Netanyahu and the nationalists, and create split between them and America.

China didn't coup over Saudi by making Houthis/Iran 100% grind them into dust either. They just weakened the Saudis and maneuvered them against America, until there was no choice but for them to reapproach.

As I see it, the same strategy will be tried on Israel.

BEIJING/TAIPEI, Dec 15 (Reuters) - China on Friday pressured Taiwan with a trade barrier probe and warplanes in the Taiwan Strait a month before the island holds key elections, as Taipei called on Beijing to stop its "political operations".

The Jan. 13 presidential and parliamentary elections are taking place as China, which views the island as its own territory, has sought to force Taiwan to accept Chinese sovereignty claims.

Taiwan's government and the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) have repeatedly said China is trying to interfere in the vote, whether by

, to ensure an outcome favourable to Beijing.

China's Commerce Ministry said it had determined Taiwan had put up trade barriers in contravention of both World Trade Organization (WTO) rules and a trade deal signed in 2010 with Taiwan. These barriers have had a "negative impact" on Chinese companies, it added.

The ministry stopped short of announcing any countermeasures. It was also unclear whether the investigation is over.

China's Taiwan Affairs Office, in a separate statement, said evidence from the probe is clear and that its conclusions objective and fair.

"We support the relevant authorities to study and take corresponding measures in accordance with regulations based on the final findings of the investigation on trade barriers to Taiwan," it said.

Separately, Taiwan's defence ministry said on Friday morning it had detected 10 Chinese military aircraft operating around the island, including J-16 fighters and H-6 bombers, carrying out "joint combat readiness patrols" with Chinese warships, part of what Taiwan calls routine harassment.

China in October said it was

its trade barrier investigation to Jan. 12, the eve of Taiwan's elections. Taiwan denounced that at the time as election interference.

Taiwan's Office of Trade Negotiations, responding to the Chinese announcement of the investigation's conclusions, called them one sided, inconsistent with the facts and in violation of WTO mechanisms and norms.

"We will never accept it and call on China to stop their political operations immediately," it said in a statement.

Both are WTO members and can resolve issues there, it added.
"If China is sincere, our attitude is that we can talk at any time," said the office's spokesperson, James Hsiao.

Taiwan's Economy Ministry pointed to Chinese barriers to Taiwanese exports like banning "without warning many times" various aquatic and food products.

The government is working with Taiwanese companies to mitigate the "policy risks" associated with China, including diversifying exports markets, the ministry added.

The DPP's Lai Ching-te is the frontrunner to be Taiwan's next president, according to polls. China detests him believing him to be a separatist and has rebuffed repeated offers of talks.

China's Taiwan Affairs Office on Wednesday said Taiwan's elections were "purely an internal Chinese matter" and that the DPP was trying to call any kind of interactions between the two sides of the strait election interference.

Taiwan's government rejects China's sovereignty claims, saying only the island's people can decide their future.

failure to commercialize military related research can be one of the factor but not the main reason of collapse. This Soviet communist is Jewish creation but most Soviet Jew later turned against this communism. They were the brightest of the people at the time. when Texas Governor Bush visited Israel in late 90s. he called it country of genius. These were the same people Putin hang around.

He hailed the Jewish state as a "country of genius."

There are other demographic changes that made functioning Soviet Union unviable. like this Chechen who played Key role helping Yelstin in that 1991 coup and later turned against his economics.
