not just marketing, there needs to be a fairly sophisticated logistics chain and QC system supporting a successful grocery store chain. H-Mart for example has done this pretty successfully in the US whereas US Chinese grocery stores have as of now been limited to fairly local mom and pop stores.
I can’t speak for the US, but definitely in Canada there are some substantial chains. Logistics and professional management is not an issue.
Here is a monster Chinese/international supermarket that opened just outside the downtown core of Toronto
Note that they are able to open such a huge store due to a real estate vacancy created by the closure of Target Canada.
There is also Seafood City in the US and Canada, it is a Filipino supermarket chain, but the owner/CEO is Carlos Go, whose surname most likely indicates Hokkienese-origin (Wu). Again, real estate played a part as this chain took advantage of some Big Box store closures in the Toronto-area (In this case the closure of Future Shop which was acquired by Best Buy and closed these surplus spaces)
