The ROC was one of the only countries to accept Jewish refugees fleeing the Germans in the lead up to WW2. The overwhelming majority of Jews remember and are deeply grateful for this, even if you yourself have forgotten this part of your own country's history.
It is pretty much well known that China is the only country in history that did not prosecute the Jews.
There were two waves of Jewish migration into China. The first was several hundred years ago, the second wave was around WW2.
The Jews were never prosecuted in China as far as anyone knows, unlike other places.
That historical facts, creates a lot of good will. In opinion polls, Jews in Israel tend to have a much more positive view of China, compared to the people in Northern Europe.
That is why, this is a very sensitive time, because there is this connection between the Jews and China.
