This is no fun and it's almost equal to a planned coup.

@SteelBird,

My god an exact copy of tactic use in the People Power Revolution in the Philippine. It need an armed component surrounded by people power to protect it. The soldiers naturally don't want any bloodshed so they will stall spreading the protest to other state and region until the center collapse. The establishment had put themselves in a precarious situation and don't to seem to know how to handle the situation, they unleash the Kraken so to speak, by demonizing the protester and unleashing another culture war, they just inflame more division than ever.

I heard a theory on the radio today that Trump wanted the riots and the assault on the Capitol Building to get worse maybe even thinking BLM was going to show up and then he would declare a state of emergency and martial law and thus the Constitution would be suspended and he could jail all his enemies and he could still be President for the foreseeable future. Look at the alert on state capitols.

@mace,

A question, usually the state control the national guard, if an armed protest occupy a state capitol and is protect by civilian population as a shield. And if National guard disobey an order to clear the protester and the FED step in with the regular army will that violate any state law?

What I'm afraid of is a state that Trump enjoy a majority may do a people power revolution, if they do that it may have a cascading effect that may influence others to follow, A civil war may erupt especially in the highly partisan and divided region.

This is already a proven tactic. The thing is, the Washington capitol riots did not achieve the desired outcome.
If the capitol was burned or even killed some lawmakers that would be sufficient enough to declare state of emergency just like as it was in 1933 Germany.

Trump would just need it to happen regardless of the outcome so he can declare martial law.

I'm no expert, but isn't the DC National Guard cotrolled directly by the President, as the DC is not a state, but a Federal Territory?

Trump missed his chance. He clearly did not plan what to do after the mob attack. Now everybody is turning against him. He could have declare emergency right at the beginning of the attack and suspend congress.

What is he thinking? It was clearly an insurrection. All power grabs begin with control of the military. He did not initiate any. Just like Julius Ceasar when it was the clear the senate was against him, he crossed the Rubicon with his Roman legions to consolidate power. Trump did not strike while the iron was hot. It was just really a Lord Farquaad moment. Some of them died and Trump was willing to just ignore.

Who is this Lord Farquadd? Keep on seeing his name somewhere.

I wished I studied more history when I was younger.
