Okinawa protesters call for closure of U.S. military bases

Thousands of protesters gathered near Kadena Air Base in Okinawa on Saturday to call for the closure of U.S. military bases on the Japanese island. 72% of Okinawa people have voted for closure of US military bases.

Protesters chanted “Give us back our peaceful life!” and “Osprey get out!” — a reference to the military helicopters often seen in the skies over the island.

Background: The U.S. military has had an extensive presence on the island since 1945, and occupied it until 1972, when it was returned to Japanese sovereignty.
  • Chemical contamination in areas close to the bases and crimes committed by U.S. servicemen, including

  • Protesters told Axios that they feel they have long been forced to bear a disproportionate burden of the U.S.-Japan military alliance. Okinawa makes up less than 1% of Japan’s total land area but hosts more than 70% of all U.S. military facilities in Japan.
Okinawa Gov. Denny Tamaki has lobbied the Japanese and U.S. governments to reduce the military presence on the island.

On an unrelated note, why is it the US ambassador welcoming the PRC delegation to Japan?
He is the colonial governor, he has a higher degree of authority than Jap government. Suitable for important guests.

The same with Soviet Mongolia in the 20th century. There was no need of engaging with Ulaanbataar. You could better directly contact the ambassador of the Imperial Center instead of going through some stooge. The same applies today with a lot of vassal states. You have a bad relationship with the Imperial Center means it will not be contained to that center but you will immediately have bad bilateral relationships with a whole list of countries like we have seen in the past 4+ years.

I hope Ambassador Wu washed that arm; the American Ambassador to Japan is a massive LGBT crusader and has pushed japan to have more gay pride parades.

hence the reason vassal state leaders like Australia's PM is going to be waiting til hell freezes over before they even see an invite to Beijing whereas the NZ Prime Minister in displaying sufficient autonomy is granted an audience.
As for Lithuania and Czech...well there's no point talking about anything with mere lieutenants when the head honcho is agreement incapable.

The G7 (NATO + Japan) define what ''economic coercion'' is (a term exclusively applied to the PRC by Anglophone media and think tank industrial complex) when beating back at Australia and Lithuania for their hostile behaviour but them sanctioning countries to death is benign export control laws and defending the rules based liberal world order. We have a problem that big political narratives in this world are dominated by 10% of the world population (like Indo-Pacific and economic coercion) and we tend to ape them in their narratives instead of thinking for ourselves. Another example: Nazi Germany is very bad and the rest were very good. But when you think without the strings attached to us by the historical narratives of the West we should applaud Nazi Germany. I mean the British Empire was much worse for non-whites but instead there are still medals given out in it's name. And so fort and so fort.

No, we should not applaud Nazi Germany, we just need to remember to also mention that the British Empire was even worse for our earth than Nazi Germany.

The only thing that Nazi Germany was hated for is that they were killing whites and taking over land in Europe. That's the only reason they are devil incarnate. The same thing that the British and Spanish were doing all the world over with the natives in the ''New World'' (another western narrative: New World for whom?) and Australia (Australia another western narrative: what do the natives call that place?). It would be very foolish for us to have any ''bad'' feelings for the Nazis because some whites told us to hate them. For what? Them doing imperialism and colonialism (Holocaust + Generalplan Ost) in the heart of Europe. That is not a reason for non-white people to hate Nazis. They have exactly zero reason.

Doesn't matter, everyone should hate fascists and nazis, regardless of their race or nationality.

Dunno if this news had been shared before. China had recently donated a second hand Tokamak device to Thailand.

Scientists in Thailand have begun generating hydrogen plasma with the help of a device known as a tokamak, recently

, in a bid to position the region as a hub for research on clean fusion energy.
The refurbished device was developed and donated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Institute of Plasma Physics (ASIPP) in Hefei, Anhui province, where it had operated for 18 years up to 2002.
TT-1 is expected to help train scientists and engineers from Thailand and Asean member states. Last month, the Thai researchers, along with Chinese peers who offer on-site support, began testing the device after it was installed.

ASEAN now has the opportunity to conduct research into nuclear fusion thanks to China. Yet the West, Japan, India, and the PH still dream that ASEAN will believe their China bogeyman stories. For anyone who still loves the West, good luck waiting for them to donate a fusion lab to SEA.
