The prelude for a possible legal prosecution. I wonder if presidential immunity of ex-president extends to "inciting insurrection and terrorism".

Biden, speaking in Wilmington, Delaware, where he was introducing nominees for his Justice Department, called the Trump supporters who forced their way into the Capitol building “domestic terrorists”.

“Don’t dare call them protesters. They were a riotous mob, insurrectionists, domestic terrorists. It’s that basic,” Democrat Biden said.

......

He unleashed an all-out assault on the institutions of our democracy from the outset, and yesterday was but the culmination of that unrelenting attack,” Biden said of Republican Trump.

If prosecuted, Trump would the the first US president being charged as a common criminal rather than impeached for miss-conduct (which I think is not a criminal process). What a time!

I think Europe and most of the West will certainly -try- to do so, including of course Australia. And despite the recent EU-China trade agreement, they'll have enough pro-US ppl in power to seriously move towards that, once they can sell that the 'US was just going through a bad phase, one bad crazy crazy man!'. Generations of favourable US-EU relationships (in their eyes anyway) won't be overdone in a mere four years. At the end of the day, they simply trust the US far more than they will probably ever trust China.

Of course, the relevance of the West is increasingly coming to an end. It'll be difficult to overstate how well China came out of all of this and the influence gained from outside the West.
I think we all hear what you are saying, but we have moved beyond that IMHO, and others agree.

That trans-Atlanticist will "-try-" to rebuild the ties, simply because they have no other play in the playbook.

We have moved beyond that, because that single play does not seem to work that well anymore. It did not work in the case of Huawei 5G getting banned, nor did it work with the CAI signed by the EU with a "in-your-face" style towards the Americans.

I would like to see how the Americans will punish the Germans for not banning Huawei 5G.

Either way, Americans punish the Germans or they do not, both ways have the same result, a dramatic weakening of trans-Atlantic ties.

I think America’s left and MSM are making things worse with their cookie cutter use of their foreign playbook on American soil.
Extremely well said.

That shooting death, that was simply outrageous.

This is was an unarmed woman who was still behind a barricade.

This was a not an angry black man.

I have seen many "Karen" videos on the internet. No one ever got shot dead. No "Karen" got shot dead until now.

This morning a lot of anger at China just because the US looked bad. Why did this insurrection happen? They don't look at their own failings. They only look at how the narrative of their image has been tarnished. Still perpetuating the same problems that got them here in the first place. It's like animals rights activists know it's a lost cause trying shame Americans from eating meat. So they now exploit American racism to get Americans to hate other cultures' eating practices to get Americans to trick them into going against eating meat. If they're disgusted with foreign eating practices, then they might actually start looking at themselves. Focusing on China for what happened in Washington is all about corralling Americans into not expressing the freedoms they brag about having. They want to use China to deter Americans from dissenting. They just can't come out and say stop exercising your freedoms because those in power now feel threatened by the very freedom they use to declare moral authority over the world and even use as an excuse to bomb other countries they don't like.

That's the lie they tell to themselves and the world that they believe in freedom but in actuality only to a point. The MAGA crowd thinks this is their freedom at stake. Meanwhile because China is relishing the hypocrisy, their excuse is Hong Kongers were fighting for freedom while these MAGA protestors... weren't? They don't think of themselves as the ultimate Americans waving the Red, White, and Blue? Most Republicans support what happened in Washington. They weren't fighting for their freedom? And you still have people spinning and lying there's a difference from Washington and Hong Kong hence why they're angry at having to eat Nancy Pelosi's words saying the rioting in Hong Kong was a beautiful thing. It's eats at them because they see the hypocrisy themselves too. That's why they can be so angry at China for something it had nothing to do with. They want to blame someone else because they're the ones failing at what they claim they believe.

On a lower level, there will be increased disillusionment in the West about the US. Various Western-aligned countries will start moving away from obedience to the US. I see Germany, South Korea, and Japan to be at the forefront of that trend. Unfortunately, Canada, UK, and Australia will likely be the last on that train.

I agree and feel your pain as your country, Canada will be the very last of the last on that train.
