It seems like a nothingburger to me, consider this photo from the event:

What good is "ready to aid Philippine" while this is happening? Is it like how US is ready to defend Japan under their security treaty and says Diaoyu Island is covered by the treaty, and the "help" consists of US going "look, he's there, do something!" whenever CCG has ships patrolling those islands? (which these days is something like 360 days out of 365 a year)

Does US have the correct resources to fight in grey zone warfare in SCS? If not what then? Open war with USN? In that bath tub of an area under the gaze of PLARF?

If all they do is talk and publish photos like this in the media without actually doing anything about it, who's looking weak then?

These 'Pino Coast Guard boats were gifted from Japan, and early the 2000s, the Japanese used them to ram our fishing boats around the Diaoyu. Today they're pretty useless, around the Diaoyu or in the SC Sea.

hold on a sec.
is the ph situation actually spiralling out of control or is it just the usual media circus?
There is a plan between PH and the US about the SCS.

They want to stage a crisis so that the PH public gets more enraged and thus allow for even closer alignment (vassalage) with the US. In addition, it would also ignite SCS feelings against China throughout ASEAN's countries which could force their leaders to align more with the US

I think the China's plan is to wait for PH to sign on to the South China Sea code of conduct this year. If PH doesn't sign it then we will know what Marco Jr's words are worth and we'll see more escalations from China.
