Well the problem isn't importing the onions per se, rather the timing of it that really screws with the local market and farmers right before harvest time, so they have to sell early while the crop is not even ready meaning even less profit if at all, or simply at a loss lest they lose the whole crop to cheaper imports which would be an even bigger loss -
This is the crux of the problem, NO AGRICULTURAL POLICY, we need a genuine LAND REFORM instead the oligarch gentry who owned most of the arable land thinks its better to develop industrial parks and residential subdivision instead. See their logic, its better on their bottom line to commercialized it rather than surrendering it to the farmers to produce food. Arguing with increasing population hitting 100 million farming job can't provide enough employment opportunities.

An example Hacienda Luisita owned by the former President Corazon Aquino and his son President Noynoy Aquino, thru their policy of protecting their fellow oligarch by refusing to legislate a true land reform program, help create the shortages we are suffering today.

Nov 30, 2021 — At least 200 farm workers and residents of Hacienda Luisita on Monday staged a protest at the provincial office of the Department of ...

The issues with HACIENDA LUISITA have existed for decades. If you have not been paying attention, here is a quick breakdown of its long-running problems.

But leave it to BongBong with his masterful lightsaber deflection skills -
He is a TRAPO (Traditional Politician), well Duterte is one of them BUT he had the skills and solid principle to do his job, while Marcos is an idiot riding on his family name to gain higher office.
Sounds reminiscent of what Deterte said about drug dealers. War on Onion Smugglers when?
BIG DIFFERENCE, Duterte produced results while Marcos produces projection. Duterte is dealing a serious threat that need a strong approach to save the Republic from becoming a Narco State, while Marcos is having trouble cooking due to Onion shortage.:(

Meh I like to think of McCarthy's visit as an opportunity.

It's not every day that you get to do military exercises next to the real thing. Now China gets to do so yearly.

In terms of messaging, China should say that it's looking to calm things down. It should say that this time the exercises will be smaller, while not actually making them so.

This, shoot some more DF over Taiwan and when they complain throw their own messaging from last year back to them and tell them "you said if it's over 100km above ground it's not anyone's problem, so what is the issue here?"

OMFG. It is like they literally looked at the instructions for proper containment and the did exact opposite!

P.S. Some apologists out there (I know you fuckers exist) are gonna say that "but according to the instructions, fire at a leak must not be extinguished unless leak is simultaneously enclosed. Well fuck you because the imbeciles at the derailment site started the fucking fire just so they could get the trains moving again. And Alan Shaw, you are a:

In comparison, EPA’s assessment doesn’t seem so far fetched. Does anyone still tell the truth as it is?
His neurological exam can't be extremely detailed if it didn't include at least a basic mental status assessment.

I'm sure his handlers were present to make sure the doctor didn't ask him any difficult questions, like what day it is.

Yup. As I have said earlier, China should stay quiet, make no comment, no statement about the possible visit. If asked at MoFA media meetings, simply say No Comment.

While staying calm and quiet, do mobilise the PLA for extensive military drills. Let the WH and Pentagon 2nd guess and panic.

Oh and btw, release some more weather balloons to boost.

Chatgpt has something to say about the matter:

Gag order on ChatGPT incoming. Maybe even arrest warrant.

Last I heard ChatGPT is valued at US$ 30 bn. Some rich people sure aren't gonna let ChatGPT's valuation drop just because it is being used to produce inconvenient chatter. I wonder how ChatGPT would answer "which is better - popcorn or melon seeds?"
