Pigs are the latest casualty of Germany’s energy crisis

Berlin/Paris/London CNN — Pig herds in Germany have shrunk to a record low as producers battle soaring input costs, adding to the list of German industries hobbled by the energy crisis.

Pig stocks and the number of pig farm farms fell “because of the persistently difficult economic situation,” the German Federal Statistics Office (Destatis) said in a Wednesday press release, adding that a sharp increase in energy, fertilizer and feed costs had pushed production costs higher.

The country registered 21.3 million pigs as of November 3, a decrease of over 10% compared with the previous year and a near 20% drop compared with 2020, bringing it to an all-time low, according to Destatis.

Germany also lost 1,900 pig farms this year, following a drop of 1,600 farms between 2020 and 2021.

In October — the latest month for which data is available — production costs for all meat jumped nearly 47% over the same time last year, Destatis data shows.

The data represents another knock to German industry, which has battled eye-watering energy price rises over the past year, sparked by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February.

Many producers in energy-intensive sectors, including chemicals, glass and metals, have cut their production, while some are laying off staff and relocating parts of their operations abroad to cope.

As many as 2 million workers in Germany could be put on furlough next spring as their employers grapple with high energy prices and a potential shortage of gas, Marc Schattenberg, a senior economist at Deutsche Bank Research, told CNN in October.

Conscription is also a good way to turn your population anti-war.

Many young taiwanese currently support war/provocation against the PRC because they have a romanticised view of war and their armed forces. It's easy to say you'll fight when you've never actually even been to field training.

After 1 year of jungle trekking, digging holes and all the stupid things infantrymen have to do (while sweating your ass off and carrying heavy equipment etc), they'll probably realise that going to war and fighting in the jungle absolutely sucks.

They'll probably also realise how pointless resisting is after experiencing ROCAF leadership / planning / training
I support more conscription for Taiwan on the sole basis there would be considerably less green trolls around once the dust settles.

Or maybe I'm overestimating them, they going to hide or run while spend all the time spamming social media aren't they.

If this had happened in China you just know the Americans would be like : "Xi has lost his mandate, is this the end of CCP rule?"
Judging by the million dead in US alone, and utilising their cultural beliefs, the United States has evidently lost favour with God due to their Sodom and Gommorrah type sins of pizzagate parties and transitioning children and homosexuality.

Decades ago, these kinds of things (poor die on the street due to cold/hungry) are rare but do happen from time to time, in china. Even today, in most developing economies, is still happening. Just remember this as what will happen if society is not working well enough. A society with a huge population (compare to centuries ago) need huge resources and tons of management work to run. A small part starts to break down and ends up with the death of the poor(or the middle become poor, even the top become poor, then die).

Clearly, the US society has been in trouble for some time.
