I think is unlikely to learn Chinese by just playing a videogame, in the same way I think unlikely to learn Japanese by just watching Anime as much weebs think they will do.

It's more about popularizing Chinese culture to the point where viewers/fans would become interested in the Chinese language and culture. Kind of like how anime has led to people wanting to learn Japanese and visit Japan. Entertainment products are a great way to promote culture.

Maybe Indians have better communication and PR skills than Chinese. Ethnic Chinese have a much harder time to rise to such prominence (CEOs and government leaders) in the west.
Good, because educated Chinese actually see having a future in China while no Indian can realize their ambition in the dumpster fire that's India. Having successful people in foreign country while your own state is failing reflect poorly on India.

The game features multiple regions inspired by China, Japan, Germany, Persia, etc..
So players can travel to whichever region they like. Overall, it does a great job at portraying China and Chinese culture in a positive light. It's a good first step. Other Chinese companies need to step up and produce quality content as well..

I think China can do better than to rely on these anime gachas games. And I think he's talking about the anime aesthetics, which I agree on. I feel like people who push this genshin is chinese soft power stuff just wants to be like Japan.

Concur. If China wants to promote Chinese culture, it's better to do so via entertainment media. Frankly, a game like Genshin Impact has done more to promote Chinese culture in the last 2 years than these Confucius Institutes ever will lol:

Exporting quality movies, TV dramas and videogames is the best strategy imo.
I know a lot of people who have learnt Chinese/visited China through Confucius Institute programs, they are not nearly as useless as you're portraying them to be.

To be honest, Genshin Impact is a "Japanese" game, albeit made by Chinese devs. Most of the Chinese culture it portrays is heavily bastardized- the architecture/clothing found in Liyue looks very weird and in many cases more Western/Japanese than Chinese.
Black Myth Wukong is much better in this regard, the art design is actually pleasing and representative of the best facets of Chinese culture.
