This is why I hate how Beijing thinks. The US doesn't care. If it serves their interest, they will do it regardless of any negative consequences. Beijing's tempered warnings only tell the US they should do it because anything China doesn't want to see happen has to be good for the US so they will do it. Or look at how some Chinese officials, business leaders and academia profess Chinese weakness in certain fields when the West gets alarmed by China's progress as if they think it will get China sympathy when all it'll do is encourage them to do it more.
There's something with Asians where they want to come across as civilized like how some use the high road versus low road perception. The thing is when you think you're taking the high road, it also means you're saying the others are taking the low road. You're coming across as a snob. I also come across Asians who will choose another path on to handle racism as opposed to how others have traditionally handled it. Asians don't want to be confrontational. They think they can convince racists to like them by not being confrontational. It comes across as an act of self-interest and selfishness when being not on the same page. Look at why Asians in the US can't unite. A large part of Asians in the US are immigrants and immigrants bring the nationalism to the US. Asians can't get it together because there will always be one that will take advantage and see it as an opportunity to suck-up and advance themselves to the white majority. That's what other groups see when Asians think they'll do it differently.
There was a popular reality show on US TV. It wasn't one of those competition shows. It was one of those that followed the lives of the cast members. There was some controversy when it was discovered that when one of them years earlier before fame on TV made a racist comment on Twitter. He said every time he sees an Asian, he just wants to punch them in the face. At the time the show's producer made no comment when that was exposed. But then to the run up to show's season finale was when the George Floyd murder happened he was fired from the show and only after a couple other cast members were also fired immediately when it was discovered they made racist comments of an African-American fellow cast member.
This guy who wants to punch the face of every Asian he sees is not uncommon. Asians have the teacher's pet mentality. They don't care about anyone else just as long as they're look upon as the favorite by the teacher. That's why it's universal that everyone hates the teacher's pet. They don't care if the one they're sucking up to looks at them as less just as long as they're seen as better than everyone else. That pretty much nails Asian nationalism. And look at how one person like Gordan Chang can confirm everything what the West wants to believe. You don't think Gordan Chang sole motivation in what he does is to feel superior to all other Chinese? Don't you want to punch Gordan Chang in the face?
Beijing thinks how it can frame problems where it will affect everyone can sway the US. No, you only concentrate how it'll affect the US. Americans think they're stronger. China thinks the US is stronger. Americans think they will come out better off than everyone else so appealing to those that have no sympathy nor empathy on how it'll hurt you doesn't make them change course. They're more likely try to do it even more because you admit they have power over you.
US/Western mistakes are a bountiful harvest. But China chooses not to exploit it like how the West does it to China because they want to come across as taking the high road. And the West will continue their narrative that they've been successful because no one is embarrassing them on how they got it wrong. Do you see the West giving kudos to China for not?
