NATO seeks Asia-Pacific support to thwart Russia-China alliance

Foreign ministers want united front to discourage Beijing's war assistance.
NATO foreign ministers will meet with their counterparts from the Asia-Pacific this week, seeking to gain their cooperation in deepening the economic and diplomatic isolation of Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

Top diplomats from eight countries and the European Union will take part, including Ukraine as well as Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand. In light of reports of alleged war crimes by Russia in Ukraine, the ministers are expected to discuss their responses, including additional assistance to Kyiv.

"Targeting and murdering civilians is a war crime," NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters on Tuesday, criticizing the Russian military's actions in Ukraine.

Top diplomats from Georgia, Sweden, Finland and the EU will also attend the two-day gathering, which begins Wednesday. NATO works closely with the latter three in particular.

The officials are expected to urge Russia to cease hostilities immediately, and agree to heighten vigilance on new developments in Eastern Europe. They will discuss delivering greater financial and military aid to Ukraine.

Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand previously were invited to a NATO foreign ministers meeting in December 2020, according to the organization. But this will be the first time a Japanese minister attends.

NATO looks to deepen its cooperation with Asia-Pacific countries to discourage China from backing Russia in the war in Ukraine. The bloc worries that Chinese financial and military assistance could drag out the conflict, and believes Beijing is already aiding Moscow politically by spreading false information.

to "abstain from supporting Russia’s war effort in any way" at their extraordinary summit on March 24.

The organization had been concerned by China's clout in and around Europe even before the war. Beijing is wielding greater influence over the Balkan Peninsula through its Belt and Road infrastructure building initiative, and is mapping out natural resources in the Arctic Ocean. The EU has reported Chinese cyberattacks against members.

NATO has responded by engaging in discussions with Japan, South Korea, Australia and New Zealand on how China's rise could shift the global security landscape. NATO and countries in the Asia-Pacific share many security concerns, including in the Korean Peninsula and out at sea.

NATO leaders will meet in June in Madrid, where they are expected to agree to bolster defensive capabilities in Eastern European regions near Russia. They are also preparing to outline how they plan to deal with issues relating to China in the group's new strategic concept, which will set its direction over the next decade.

That's propaganda.

The first time I saw something like this, was from Faux News.

They had a graphic on the screen, which was a graph with numbers underneath it.

The graph was suppose to make their political enemies the Democrats look bad.

The numbers to the graph was correct. But those numbers were not bad.

However, the way they drew the graph, it looked bad, because the graph plotted did not correspond to the numbers. No one is going to look closely at the numbers when they already see the line of the graph. People will remember that line of the graph, and if it was a mistake, then too bad!

Same thing here. They want to people to remember the picture, and not the headline. The emotional feeling provoked is more important than the data.

We can tell who is winning and losing by the propaganda used.

:D

I'm starting to form what is US' general strategy and what they are trying to do against China as well.

Agree with what you are saying.

However, I think China should ignore it, or not do much about it.

There is not much to do.

The problem with large organizations, is that it is difficult to all those involved to be moving in the same direction. That is the weakness, because if someone bolts, they all could go, and the dam burst.

Look at the QUAD. As an organization to contain China, it is already on its deathbed. The Americans had designs that the QUAD was going to contain Russia as well, and the QUAD was going to gain new members.

When something is weak, it does not mean it can become strong overnight.

To be strong, they must put in the effort, which they seem to have lost their confidence in doing that.

Seems like the Americans want a quick fix for everything.

Correct! I pointed out the response from EU and NATO has been completely disunited to the entire situation. They like to puff that finally they are more united that ever, but all I'm seeing is EU members dragging their feet and some even undermining their own sanctions. All these organization US is making is running into a Byzantine General problem, where you succinctly illustrated what is the issue and effect of this problem.

They are having so much trouble with just Russia alone, what do they expect when they try the same strategy with China, where a lot of their interests and contradictions will collide. That's why I don't see US strategy succeeding here, and that China's success is assured as long as their government doesn't screw up.

Why is this white boy assiduously assume that if only Chinese people are exposed to Uncle Vladimir's genocide in Bucha, Ukraine then Chinese people would demand that their government change their tune and support Daddy America? I never get this nonsense from people like this assuming or insisting that uncritical western news reporting must be parroted without question to a country like China because if it doesn't it means that China is simply suppressing the "truth" to her own people. What a condescending, supremacist attitude that many western people possess.

I mean, if that is the standard, then why can't they showcase positive things, contributions that the CPC, the Chinese people writ-large have done in China with all the positive achievements it made these past many decades, especially in lifting hundreds of millions of Chinese people from extreme poverty, a feat that's unprecedented in human history. All they (the collective west) muster to do is show, exaggerate any Chinese failings to project their sick wishful thinking that the Chinese system is about to collapse, is collapsing, or will collapse for the millionth time.

Its always dumb takes from these people with Chinese names after their username, sometimes fake to compensate for their lack of authority and understanding on matters related to China. All they can do is cry abt it in Twitter, that the Chinese media controls their own narrative like their own "free and independent" media.

These people are also the reason why anti-Asian hate crimes are rising up in their own states, and responsible for reinforcing the narrative that Chinese people are bunch of brainwashed folks. I really wish they live in interesting times.
