Good catch, so just a while ago I went out to buy fried chicken and thought about what China could do if this does happen and here's what I got.

Instead of arming them similar to NATO and sending peacekeepers, China could offer to mediate the concerns by offering "security guarantees" proposals with Australia, and making the proposal public to see. Get a neutral country like Vietnam to mediate the talks between the two. After all the base is more aimed towards US than Australia.

This would make China look like a responsible world power, and promote the idea of "One cannot improve their security, at the expense of others". If Australia declines the talk, it would make them look like an irrational player, and if they went ahead with the operation, this would make them even more of a pariah than Russia, and with that condemnation, China could use the opportunity to improve their relations with the ASEAN countries. Hype up the "Australia threat" to get ASEAN on board against Australia.

Even if they didn't do the operation after the talk failed, China would win a PR battle, and Australia will be watched to see if they'll try to unilaterally change the status quo. after that, China should work behind the scenes with the government to crackdown on subversive elements and thwart any plans for color revolution.

Edit: Also US wouldn't be able to use the same strategy with China, because this would require US to bilaterally work with China, instead of unilaterally changing the status quo, also China would just tell them that they will under no circumstances the will negotiate giving away their rightful territories, then repeat the usual stuff about "One China policy" and the "Shanghai Communique"
Depends on how sincere the offer of security guarantees appear to third parties (ASEAN) - if this can be properly crafted with genuine clauses that work to the benefit China, SI and AU without leaving opportunities for Australian backstab (which they will do if given the chance - just look at how the last 3-4 prime ministers got into power), then this will kill any AU countermove in the womb.
Also never underestimate the ability of Murdoch media to brainwash the masses, any security guarantee and surrounding moves need to be made thoroughly 'ammo free' for media twist and spin.

Based af. Making progress on these western worshippers. As usual, the younger generation leads the way
Watch as the same people who calls this indoctrination and propaganda, promotes assaulting and censoring anyone who go against the narrative by sympathizing with Russia or going against Ukraine. Hell, it got so bad that even holding a neutral opinion would be seen as being a "Kremlin shill".

China should continue doing this, its their job to make the next generation be based af, and to make the those pro-west libs in China seethe and cope, destroying any chance to convince them to go against their motherland.

Calling out the Chinese for indoctrination and propaganda is not really the "brave" thing to do on twitter. The general consensus is that China is an authoritarian hell hole so such things are expected. True bravery would be calling out the atrocious treatment of J.K. Rowling following what I would consider some pretty innocuous remarks she made.

Well this is an opportunity for both sides to settle the problem and demilitarize the border isn't it? Hopefully India can reciprocate, so they can work together, instead of fighting over land.
Hopefully, however this is India we are talking about, and they have various 'grievances' (e.g. all border clashes) burnt into their psyche. I still maintain they're only as reliable as you can make them with force or with fear

Of course, but the opinions of the Australians are unimportant, besides they voted Scott Morrison, who is a complete moron. What matters more is the perception of the elites, political class and maybe the population of the neutral countries.

And even if the next prime minister decide to renegade on the promises, China still win at the PR battle and can carry out the plan to make Australia a pariah, improving relations with ASEAN against the threat of Australia.

Or maybe it worked and certain types just don't want to believe it
Even if it doesn't work, it will work in the future, as Russia might find it a good idea to provide assistance to leverage North Korea against both Japan and South Korea.

And even without Russia, I'm fully confident rocket boy Kim will eventually fulfill his dream of showing the world the joy of ICBM.;)
