Shen Yi is a political scientist at Shanghai Fudan University. He is an excellent analyst. But I don't think he gets real-time brief from the top. There should be some arrangements before any Xi-Biden talk, i.e., no surprises. If the agenda is again US talking "from a position of strength", then there would not have this meeting arrangement. There must be lots of bean counting under the table.
First time fighting a peer military does that to you. And they think they can take China without any losses.

Xi should just say no. As a matter of fact, just ignore the US until the next president comes into power. Talking with them is useless and only serves to ease the US stock market's jitters.
