The Russo Ukraine war starting to open new things I didn't expect. I wonder if there is any current discussion in Singapore about its position in China US cold war. Is it still sticking to supposedly staying neutral?

I know it is hard to imagine at this time, but many many many years ago, australia was actually openly questioning which side should they support in a conflict between US their security ally, and China their largest economy partner. Of course now we know how that went.

Interesting headline. Makes it seem like China has world highest covid infections and deaths, and that Beijing is surrounded by Russian forces or economy crippled by Western sanctions due to the war.

It is over-dramatic, but not entirely without merits. There was reporting from wjs about Xi is facing oppositions from some party elders such ex-premier Zhu. Covid lockdown does dampen economic outlooks and consumer sentiments in a sensitive year for Xi. Also, Liu He (vice premier in charge of PRC finance) today just announced more easing and more renewed focus on market/internationalized oriented reforms, more encouragement for Chinese firms to list overseas. He also warned other officials be careful of introducing more crackdowns on industries and vowed to hold any officials out of line responsible.

Some party “elders,” or retired leaders who still have a say in political discourse, have recently spoken up against Mr. Xi’s desire to break with the established leadership-succession system, according to the insiders. They include former Premier Zhu Rongji, an elder statesman known as Boss Zhu in China and an economic reformer admired by the West. Mr. Zhu, who negotiated China’s 2001 entry into the World Trade Organization, privately has questioned Mr. Xi’s state-centered policy, the insiders said.

Beijing is preparing to make a concession on the disclosure of Chinese audit information in an effort to resolve an impasse threatening more than $2tn of shares in US-listed Chinese companies.
The plans could result in some Chinese companies that are listed in the US being able to provide some audit information to US accounting regulators, according to three people familiar with the matter. They would also clarify what information can and cannot be disclosed abroad, the people said.

Russia should tell the lapdog that No hydrocarbons and other riches for the thief!
The Chinese should take part in this project and any other that the Japanese militarists were trying to get involved in.

Wsj reporting about china should be taken with salt. But the claim that hardcore reformers like Zhu don't like Xi's policy should not have come as a surprise to anyone who makes an effort of following PRC politics. The question is always how much influence Zhu and his followers have.

It is a forgone conclusion that those countries that participated the US and Nato sanctioned against Russia would join the US sanctions against China in a conflict between China and the US.

I think that is all propaganda.

The reality is, there is only so much they can do.

If there are sanctions, China will counter-attack, and cleave the world into two economic blocks.

There will be the west, and then there is the rest of the world.

China knows it is the biggest trader with the rest of the world.

If there is a decoupling between the west and China in terms of economics, then both sides will still compete in the rest of the world.

China has no illusions about who has the advantage there.

The United States lead a diplomatic boycott of the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Argentina leader travelled all the way there to sign onto the BRI. One side plays politics to no end. The other side gets things done.

The west should have no illusions either.

:D

Then again, President Trump is making a come back!

:oops::p
