Xi gave Trump the respect unheard of by any foreign head of state by inviting him to dine in the Forbidden Palace, the former residence of Chinese emperors since the Ming Dynasty and symbol of ultimate power. Instead Trump paid back by kneecapping ZTE, Huawei, and SMIC, imposing tariffs on Chinese goods, and stirring up anti-Chinese sentiments within the U.S. Even if you are a huge MAGA fan you must know deep down that such retaliations are deserved.
To be clear, they had tea inside Forbidden city, 宝蕴楼 to be exact. It was the prison of crown prince Yin Reng 允礽, after that became the school of banner man, then residence of concubines, then libraries.
The state banquet was in the Great Hall of People as usual.
Although it may sounds significant because it is within the forbidden city. But It is totally non significant because
Trump actually toured around the forbidden city for half day. Having a cup of tea for a short rest anywhere inside forbidden city is the minimum any host should do to an old man even a bad one. Note,
touring forbidden city by foreign leader is very common protocol of state visit. If you really hate it, there should not have been a visit to begin with. You can check out visits by other heads of state and government, see how frequent they tour around inside forbidden city.
The fact that Xi extended such an honor to what was, obviously, a deranged personality is, in itself, problematic. What was the basis, or were the bases, of the Chinese fascination with Trump?
There is no fascination, just protocol.
As usual, the only way somebody not being scared of someone
in your mind is for somebody to literally and physically beat the crap out of someone. That is a very rare practice around the world, past and present. It is even rarer for China.
If you want to demonstrate what is brave, I dare you to do so yourself.
