Hong Kong? Lol like what "authentic" Chinese culture do they practice there? Looting, rioting, and prostrating for the British Queen? Thank goodness I don't have those kind of friends, otherwise, I'll probably would have lost it. No self-respecting Chinese should even dare say such ridiculous and unfounded crap to begin with. I didn't realize that Imperial China practiced Democracy from the preceding millenia only to be upended by the darn commies. What a hoot.

To a certain extent there is truth to the idea that Traditional culture was better preserved in HK and ROC (ROC, not “Taiwan” as the DPP calls it now).

We have to recognize that the Communist movement was a revolutionary one, supposed to usher in a new era for all people (not just China even). This spirit is famously embodied in the song 沒有共產黨就沒有新中國, emphasis on the New China part. Of course there is also 新話/Xinhua news, etc.

This went further to changing the language to the use of simplified characters and the name to 普通話 (common speech) from 國語 (national language).

Of course as most of us know, the Revolution grew excessively culminating in the Cultural Revolution, which at this point is best recognized as a “two steps forwards, three steps back” situation. Once the country pulled back from that edge, it had to slowly rebuild the cultural consciousness. Hand in hand with the economic growth was reclaiming the mantle of cultural leadership (not coincidentally this is evident in Chinese pop-culture, dominated by Canto-pop in the 90’s, Taiwan Mandopop in the 00’s, and of course mainland acts now).

One interesting news article I read quite a long time ago was how mainland restauranteurs were going to HK, Canada, and the US to get chefs, paying very big bucks. Fine dining being an obvious bourgeoisie pursuit that was obviously discouraged in the early days.

It was only since the reign of CSB that Taiwan has progressively gone down the “full retard” rabbit hole (apologies to those that don’t get the reference). He committed to a policy of de-sinicization which might have made sense if everyone was not speaking and writing Chinese. Now the DPP continues this illogical charade claiming all kinds of nonsense like aboriginal descent or being Japanese. Of course when stupidity reigns, expect stupid results like the above video.

I would say in some ways that progress made is more important than preservation. It is easy to not change vs. create meaningful change. Do you want Taiwan Minister of 76,000 genders or China highest % of female CEOs in the world?

There was a famous case in Canada a few years ago where an Indian family had disowned their daughters in their will even though they took care of them in their twilight years. When the lawyer representing the daughters in the court case was asked if these cases were common (disowning daughters) he said that he only encountered it mostly amongst conservative immigrants from India and HK, but never mainland China.

I still keep these type of friends. Normally I don't bring up politics. It's the anti-China idiots that always bring it up. In any case, Wu Maos like me are not like the democrazy idiots. We don't like to make or break friendship by political alignments. It's mostly the other side who do so.

There are still plenty of ignorant ethnic Chinese around. MSM and longtime Cold-War anti-communism brainwashing have created this. It's political correct to hate 'Communist China'. So hating China is trendy.

These people are trapped in the Western-aligned social media. They are trapped in FB, YT, MSM news, and the NED sponsored media in Malaysia. These democrazy idiots have never stepped foot into mainland China, or even if they did, was only for a short trip. They are stuck in the Cold War. Their idea of a 'true China' is HK and Taiwan. It makes me feel sick, but its just only them, stuck in their fantasy. Ignorant fools tend to speak loud. While ppl who know more tend to be more humble.

I concur with this. I encountered many people like this online, less so in real life as I dun like to talk politics and China government with anyone nowadays as I get too agitated when defending pro China views.

But the common argument brought up by these han jians, be they Singaporean Chinese, Taiwan Chinese or mainland Chinese that are anti CPC, is they real china traditions and values are in hk or tw lol. Communism is foreign. They even bring up silly things like cultural revolution that happen decades ago. That the imperial treasure are safer in Taipei etc. Traditional Chinese characters is real Chinese etc.

I mean, it's ridiculous if you think about it. Taiwan is now kowtowing shamelessly to Western and Japan and trying to de-sinocize themselves. While hk cockroaches are waving American flags and ass kissing their former colonial masters. There is really no argument at all. But these hanjians make it seem CPC is foreign to China. It's really infuriating and sad at the same time.

These han jians are so hell bent on hating the CPC. Everything about the CPC is evil to them. Even when the HK, TW, and Anglos that they so cherish is so blatantly trying to prostitute Chinese culture.

They will talk about the Chinese cultural relics being saved in Taiwanese Museums. While ignoring the Terracotta Army Musuem in Xi'an. If the CPC was so evil, why did they not destroy the Terracotta Warriors like what ISIS did to Palmyra in Syria?

These ppl can be quite deluded. The have the cheek to say that Falun Dafa is Chinese cultural heritage. While any traditional dance in China is a fake CCP show.

When I bring up topics like the Nanjing Massacre. They'll say that the CCP killed more Chinese than the Japanese. When I bring up the Opium War. They say that that is CCP propaganda.

These han jians are too far lost. They have drunk the koolaid too much. They are already a part of the cult. These can be normal people in societies. They are good at their work. But they completely lack critical thinking. In a conversation, they are good at talking, but usually comes off as shallow.
