Don't worry about the HKer Hanjian.

One good slap to our faces from a rich and powerful master will put us in our place, and we will worship you for the next 200 year without any trouble. Heck, we even compete lick your scrotum so long as we have priority seating ahead of the other tributaries (Korena, Vietnamese, Japanese). Just like those other tributary states, we only respect money and power. China is the center of the world and soon the richest and most powerful in the world.

That depends on which metric of worse.

NYC might not be much to ride on, but on my many trips there, it's pretty reliable and will get you to most places in New York.

Washington DC is nicer to ride on, but the service sucks (not to mention safety issues, lack of coverage compared to Chicago or NYC and construction delays).

In the spirit of the original video, I was going basically on cleanliness and general feeling.

Things that are shocking and “scary” to tourists (but I’m assuming not so much if you lived there) are all the homeless people that sleep on the train, all the beggars, weird peddlers of counterfeit metro cards outside stations, random singers that aren’t necessarily beggars (but come off that way to the unfamiliar), etc. etc.

Of course NYC subway is running 24/7 and has routes out to suburbs, so service availability and coverage is impressive.

Well New York is supposed to be the richest city in the world and they can't find the money to upgrade their infrastructure...? Why? Because special interests see spending money on the general public as a waste of money. This is how the US operates. The infrastructure bill that Biden was pushing and Senator Joe Manchin killed... he didn't like it because it allocated money to help "poor people" which he called a waste of money. It's like I believe it was Senator Rand Paul who was against any COVID-19 relief aid to states but now recently wants it for his state because his state needs it. These politicians are okay with their districts in the flyover states getting money but they don't like it when others get money. You see this at a country level. You see this at a state level. You see it at city level. In New York you have special interests that don't take the subway so they could care less about their metro system getting money when it could be spent on things where their interests lie.

Totally agree. It’s a real shame because the system doesn’t really need high cost upgrading. In LA, the traffic is a nightmare because the subway doesn’t actually go very far, but NY already has that part taken care of. It’s just so generally nasty, like I read an article about how urine filled bottles are a problem. Obviously paint, cleaning staff, and better lighting are still expensive, but it’s still cheaper than TBMs.

Running 24/7 is part of the problem because it means there is no downtime where you can perform maintenance of the system.
Given the huge amount of deferred maintenance the system has, decades of it, I would assume proper upgrade costs would be quite a lot higher than you would expect.

You can shut down some of the stations for maintenance, subway systems all over the world do that regularly. The State of NYC subway is really atrocious.

This Dengist (with 2.5mn followers on Weibo) wants China to capitulate , beg US for forgiveness and even endure humiliation but not decouple at any cost.
He sounds like a old dude a product of a old age that doesnt exist anymore. He wants that era to return because his network/fame/knowledge was achieved in that Era.

I think you will see this more where the people who created their social circles in a pre 2008 and a western hegemony world clash with people who created their social circles in a post 2008 and post western hegemony world.

Which points to another reason for China to pursue self-sufficiency in advanced technology: domestic politics. "Decoupling" empowers the ascendant factions and further weakens those who drew their strength from engaging with America rather than investing in China.

When the SCMP openly praises what you are saying it means that something is seriously wrong in your beliefs

Unfortunately, it seems that he still hasn't realized the real reason behind the US trying to contain China. He thinks that if China backs down and gives in, the US will suddenly change course and embrace China again..
