After having read Peng Shuai's actual post regarding her matter with the now retired official and also reading the very lucid and cogent analysis from the folks at Moon of Alabama (article linked) I have to say that my western sensibilities got the best of me and for yet once again falling victim like a sucker that I am for the black propaganda the west, pushed by it's propaganda outlets in this case, the NYT on inventing a RAPE allegation that is simply not on the original now deleted post by Peng.
Her letter itself read like a woman heart broken, disappointed, and heartbroken from her 3 years love affair with Mr.Zhang. She felt used and discarded which are all understandable because that's what people feel whenever a serious relationship unceremoniously ends. But that's a far cry to what we in the west have been led to believe and as I had suspected all of these non existent drama is just yet another lame attempt by these western people to damage China's standing in the world and most importantly to keep punching on China rhetorically to help condition the population to a future conflict. But right now the real goal is to impede and if possible stop many western countries from going to China's winter Olympics.

Yes. What some people miss in the hard power/soft power talk is the deep thread of white supremacists that tie together several countries, including some you wouldn't expect like Sweden or Spain. Remember, both those countries tried to have empires with African slaves too.
And the big thing is, the fundamental thing is... Those countries never had a societal change from those times unlike countries in Asia or even Britain. They never really had to face the consequences of their actions. They are fundamentally still the same as when they were trying for empire.
It sure wasnt soft power that got US the land from Texas to California, if memory serves the US Army literally held the Mexican President at gunpoint with a barrel to his head to force him to sign that land away....
