I remember there were some voices in this forum arguing for China to change the name of PLA to "China Army, Navy and Air force". I just read the recent news about PLA air force giving warning to Taiwan's pilots as "This is People Liberation Army......". It won't work if the name is changed that would effectively makes the two sides' air forces from two countries.

Just a practical reason for not changing besides the more important reason "the nature and root of PLA". There was same suggestions in the early days of PRC which was rejected by Mao because "China's land is not fully liberated yet", he further stated (partially joking) "even after the whole China is liberated, there is the world to be liberated."

Should have cut off export of rare earths to QUAD countries long time ago and save them for domestic use. The state could then subsidize rare earth export firms to divert their businesses to domestic consumers and friendly countries. Just like the mistreatment of North Korea, the failure to strategically govern rare earth expert is one area I think Xi has failed (or he simply doesn't care) so far.

No rush. China and the US are not insulated from each other. Each country has strengths and weaknesses

The rare earths trump card will only be used for in a catastrophy-level emergency. China can afford to play off slowly and break down its opponent methodically without resorting to using one-time trump cards

Meanwhile the US took the other way, and Trump used all of the cards in the trade war. Now the US is left facing China without walls, without gates, without soldiers.

China will (and should) keep its cards away and hidden

The american foreign minister is being needlessly confrontational because as the head of the war faction in the United States, he wants to instigate a war but does so clumsily in a sophomoric way.

The americans need a war NOW otherwise the balance of power will shift inexorably towards China.
