Maybe thats just all part of the plan, just let covid or the heat get rid of the old pensioners in Europe. It saves the government money and now the elites can now claim the money for themselves.
Not to mention the use of brick vs wood houses. Since most houses in the UK are brick or stone, that is A LOT of thermal mass that is accumulating heat energy throughout the day. Sure for the first couple of days it might be better at blocking out the heat, but after that, the denser thermal mass means that all that heat is released slowly throughout the night with no reprieve, whereas a less dense wood/fiber insulation construction can quickly exchange that heat for cooler outside temperatures throughout the evening. They are going to be literally baking in clay ovens 24 hours a day if they don't find some way to pump cold air into their homes.
I currently live in a modern high rise concrete and glass construction condo after previously living in a wood frame house and the last couple of summers during heat waves was noticeably hotter during the evening compared to the house with similar temps outside. (No built-in AC in either)

As far as I can tell, this particular game involving cars do not involve who is more brave or less brave than the other party.
If the Americans insist on being this pig-headed stupid like the Japanese, then let them be proud of themselves.

The Americans are sore losers.
Historically, Americans have always been sore losers, they suck.
This ban on Volvo, means they admit they lost in the car race.
It also means this decoupling will continue on pace, or even accelerate.
That is the bigger game. How to decouple and get the most out of it.
To ban American cars in China, when those US brands are like in free all, seems like a moot point. A ban is still politics, and we do not waste political capital on stuff that will happen regardless.

Any population that tolerates this degree of authoritarian state interference in their daily lives without daring to even let out a fart in protest (think of all the methane in farts!) have no right to speak of liberty and freedom.
Go free yourselves first before trying to lecture others about freedom.
It also neatly illustrates the pure performative BS of western obsession of exporting ‘freedom’ and ‘democracy’. How can they export something they don’t even have at home? Western freedoms are just an empty illusion and western democracy is just the means by which western elites enslaved their own populations, and with which they endlessly seek to enslave the rest of the truly free world.
