He and another redacted joke about Ma going into retirement in a different chat log incidentally, they make passing mention of having people they trust in the government but nothing particularly substatial in terms of evidence. Keep in mind this is all 2018-2019 so it predates a lot of house-cleaning.It’s also possible that the anti corruption campaign didn’t just scoop up corrupt officials and spies, but also compromised Chinese elites and party members who had dealings with with Epstein and his associates. Jack ma and Zhao Wei come to mind.
Again my impression is Epstein was very vain and had a very big head (figuratively and literally) so probably was prone to imagining his importance to "breaking China" was much higher than it actually was.
Deepest link i've found is his friendly correspondences with Robert Kuhn, who is a very intriguing and suspicious figure close to the party (ostebsibly a very pro CPC intellectual). But again I haven't seen any evidence that they discussed Chinese internal politics and not clear Kuhn shares his views (if so he does a very good job hiding that).
Mostly i'm disappointed by how limited this disclosure is, actual chat logs are drowned out by copius articles, books and other shit these people shared. Still it's worth checking out if you want a peek behind the screen into the sleazy backend of the imperial machine.
