Trump's deal with Iran is splitting Republicans, and Vance is in the line of fire.
Vance is preparing to further link himself to the outcome of the conflict on Friday, and is expected to travel to Switzerland to launch a new phase of negotiations with Iran. He was originally expected to attend the formal signing ceremony for the agreement, but Trump officially signed it on Wednesday (early this morning Mecca time) instead.

A Gamble
Vance's transformation into a strong advocate for the agreement appears to be a gamble. If he decides to run for president in 2028, voters will reward him for being a symbol of ending an unpopular conflict. This also positions Vance as the likely scapegoat if the deal with Iran fails.
Trump joked about this possibility yesterday, saying, "If it works, I'll take the credit. If it doesn't, I'll blame J.D. Vance."
