So it is civilian as in non-government? Though the whole word play with Putin Fleet, Motorcade, could also mean a Russian government limo and not necessarily part of a senior entourage. Since they have this obsession with calling everything in Russia “Putin’s _____.”
Aurus is just a fancy car. They aren't all Putin's, not even close, even if Putin might be their biggest fan.

I don't know about if the location of the car has any special importance, but otherwise it looks a lot like one of many car fires. Or maybe a vandal set it on fire to protest something, associating the random vehicle with Putin much like how another brand of vehicle in the west have been associated with Musk lol

If this was a government car, even a very low level one, there would be FSB running around.

I won't post this to J-36 thread, it's too unserious.

I like the slightly nervous jokes about the bad quality Chinese stuff! :) The thing is that the Chinese have put so much money in research and education the last decades they are running circles around us in the west. And they don't drown in debt... This is a time of imperial shift whether we like it or not.

Underestimating your foe is an awfully American attribute, which applies across the board. This is at a time when Chinese sciences are in ascendance, and far beyond that of the US. Pay close attention without being quite so snide.

Seems anti CN media in t41w4n already blaming CN on the collapsed constructikn bldg site collapse in Thailand. When it was a joint venture, and allegedly being constructed by local comps?

These are the same dwellers in the bottom of the well that claim that the CoronaVac (科興疫苗) is so bad, its "inventor" was "executed" recently, just because they are so jealous that a lot of Taiwanese got vaccinated in mainland China. Just ignore them.

This is quick.

German foreign minister calls for iPhone update tax

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has proposed introducing a fee on iPhone software updates as a response to new US tariffs on EU goods, according to the newspaper Der Tagesspiegel.

The proposal follows an announcement by US President Donald Trump this week of an additional 25% tariff on hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of imported cars and auto parts from the EU, expected to take effect next week. Trump warned of further measures if the bloc responded with its own levies.

Speaking at the Berlin European Conference on Thursday, Baerbock cited the EU’s Digital Services Act (DSA), adopted in 2022, which includes mechanisms for responding to external trade pressure.

“If others … propose a 25% tariff, then we can put our entire toolbox on the table,” Baerbock said.

She suggested one option could be a levy on digital services: “How often do we update our iPhone? Add ten cents to it – that would bring a lot of money for Europe, though others might not like [it] so much.”

The report, however, questioned whether European consumers – who might ultimately bear the cost – would support the German foreign minister’s proposal.

According to German daily NOZ, citing data from Statista on Thursday, there are approximately 165 million iPhone users in the EU. With iPhones typically receiving six to ten software updates per year, a €0.10 levy per update could generate around €165 million ($178 million) annually. Apple reported a global net profit of $36.3 billion in the first fiscal quarter of 2025, according to company filings.

The US has long accused the EU of unfair trade practices, including high tariffs on American goods and regulatory hurdles affecting American companies.

In February, Trump said he would impose 25% levies on all imports from the EU, claiming the bloc was created to “screw” America.

The latest tariffs could hit the German auto industry hardest, with carmakers like Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz facing significant challenges in the US market, analysts say. Rising production costs and factory closures have already put pressure on parts of Germany’s manufacturing sector.

Trump’s 25% tariff hike on steel and aluminum supplies from the bloc took effect on March 12, following the expiration of previous exemptions, duty-free quotas, and product exclusions. In response, the EU announced it would impose counter-tariffs on €26 billion worth of US goods beginning in April.

A similar trade dispute unfolded during Trump’s first term, when he slapped tariffs of 25% on European steel and 10% on aluminum, prompting retaliatory measures from Brussels. The measures impacted more than $10 billion worth of transatlantic trade.
“How often do we update our iPhone? Add ten cents to it – that would bring a lot of money for Europe, though others might not like [it] so much.”

Grasping at straws.

WOW!! Is the Kremlin that compromised for the level of insecurity on a supposed secure place - within the heartland of Putin's domain - by the West/Americans is really just astounding to witness in real time.

The timing of this incident couldn't be more coincidental with Russia having a sliver of momentary "truce" or even a possible modus vivendi with the Americans in order to woo Russia away from it's close relationship with China.
Moscow is migrant dominated city with plenty of Europhiles due to its Soviet Past. when Putin distributes medals he hardly mention Moscow natives. I am surprised you havent understood that basic point even though all the time i write about Arabic Soft Power in this thread. There plenty of Aurus distributed now. as it is manufactured at two places. one hand built and one serial production.
Aurus is the only car in history where all the leaders of UAE inspected it together. they usually goes to exhibition separately.

By this logic, China should also not develop say Xinjiang, Tibet or Guangxi because they're just historically poor and shitty so a lot of blood and tears effort was needed to bring them to developed nation status.

With transports from where? The most they can do is complain, especially after China already cut off India's side with the coup in Bangladesh. They complained already many times without result. Whether China embraces expansion is or not, they will keep complaining without much result.

I don't see how the few 1000 Myanmar ppl that are crazy enough to take up arms directly at PLA and end up crippled for it is going to affect China's core lands politics. Maybe they will create dissatisfaction within the authority responsible for occupying Myanmar. But on the other hand, there will also be growth and poverty relief that was never there under the stagnating junta.

Remember Myanmar is not even like Saddam's Iraq. It is much more like Syria. There is little unified national government and when China goes in, it's going to do so together with local collaborators already set up.

It is just a question of will and ambition. The current admin's strategists don't believe in using colonies to boost the country's wealth, this is more ideological than 100% factual and evidence based thinking. The second point is if China has the working room to take on another poor province. The answer is maybe not today, but defintely yes in a few years, since all of the poorer core Chinese provinces are reaching developed country standard around now. They need a few years to settle in, and then China could seriously have the capability to take on developing a new province.
The key difference was that Xinjiang, Xizang and Guangxi were already part of China, so it was a case of cleaning house vs buying a new but problematic house. Right now taking a new territory is a risk that doesn't yet weigh up against other priorities. I agree with the rest of your comment.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has reoriented the U.S. military to prioritize deterring China’s seizure of Taiwan and shoring up homeland defense by “assuming risk” in Europe and other parts of the world, according to a secret internal guidance memo that bears the fingerprints of the conservative Heritage Foundation, including some passages that are nearly word-for-word duplications of text published by the think tank last year.

The document, known as the Interim National Defense Strategic Guidance and marked “secret/no foreign national” in most passages, was distributed throughout the Defense Department in mid-March and signed by Hegseth. It outlines, in broad and sometimes partisan detail, the execution of President Donald Trump’s vision to prepare for and win a potential war against Beijing and defend the United States from threats in the “near abroad,” including Greenland and the Panama Canal.

The first Trump administration and the Biden administration characterized China as the greatest threat to the U.S. and postured the force to prepare for and deter conflict in the Pacific region. But Hegseth’s guidance is extraordinary in its description of the potential invasion of Taiwan as the exclusive animating scenario that must be prioritized over other potential dangers — reorienting the vast U.S. military architecture toward the Indo-Pacific region beyond its homeland defense mission.
