This is precisely the flexibility in Chinese policy making that I addressed. Always people lament, China needs a compelling story to sell the world rather than just being a boring mercantalist state. Well, having a good story to sell the world means you'll be bound to that story like leg chains and the only thing that's ever constant in this world is change. In just one month Trump has ended the age of ideaological struggle ie. Capitalism vs Communism, Authoritarianism vs. Democracy, Liberalism vs. Illiberalism, and brought back the Age of Empires. What better polity to navigate this environment than China, which has always had a finger in everyone's pie regardless of ideaology? In the age of Trump, states will value stability and predictability above all else, and China is always predictable in that as long as you show them the money, they will honor all agreements.
Its why in case y'all didn't see the news, China recently surpassed the UK for the first time ever to become the world's number 2 nation in terms of Soft Power. Imagine that, in just five years going from COVID to being the last hope for the civilized world. And most of the developments that earned China this ranking happened in just the span of two months.
Looks like ethnic East Asian journos still do it for free.

The American government is made up of white guys with liberal arts degrees.
They probably never set foot in a University science or engineering class to see that probably 50% of the class are Chinese (not even diluting this term with "Asians" because Chinese are the largest East Asian population)
edit: Another point, this article points out a number of these guys went to the University of Toronto. It was called "Too Asian" by a magazine, quoting some rich white girls

ABIDJAN, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- France officially transferred control of its only military base in Cote d'Ivoire, the camp of the 43rd Marine Infantry Battalion (BIMA), to the West African nation's authorities on Thursday.
During an official ceremony at the military camp's parade ground, Cote d'Ivoire's Defense Minister Tene Birahima Ouattara and his French counterpart Sebastien Lecornu signed the official handover document.
The ceremony also featured the symbolic raising of the Ivorian flag in place of the French flag, marking the official installation of the Ivorian army at the base, which was renamed Camp Thomas d'Aquin Ouattara in honor of the country's first army chief of staff.
