Thats what angers me as well. That the US is presenting itself as a leader on climate change when it has done nothing on combating it.
I would prefer the UN or the EU leading it. But no, because Biden was elected, the rest of the world must soothe his ego and attend his (virtual)meeting when the US is doing nothing on this field. And I am fully expecting the hypocrite Biden to lecture China that "it is not doing enough and it must move the net zero target fron 2060 to 2050"

And China should reply that because of American tech bans including banning China access to semiconductors, supercomputers, and banning China's AI industries thats it gonna be much harder for China to solve fusion, and other solutions in order to met the 2060 target and now China revised its goal to be net zero by 2070 instead

One more note, it is so far only SCMP's claim that "Xi will attend", we shall see, I am usually skeptical of SCMP. Didn't Trump make many claims that China wanted talk at various point of time when most of them (except the last one) did not materialize. This time, it could be Biden using the same tactic.
The way it is played is like this, the host send out invitations then ask for response, some guests say "we will see", then the host may say "a VIP is coming", the guests may rethink about it. Basically, one can go around and say "everybody else is coming, what about you?". It is the same tactic of "claiming the international community" when in fact it is only some western countries.

I am not convinced there is really anything happening down there at all tbh. So far we just had some random photos of Chinese ships fishing tied together and a lot of hot air from American cat paws in the Philippines.
China said they were just there to shelter from a storm and I have seen nothing to contradict that. The pictures are perfectly consistent with fishing boats battering down the hatches for the storm, as there would be little reason for them to be tied together like that otherwise.
In the past when China used its naval militia to take ground, they were all operating independently under their own power to better cover the disputed area and face off against and chase away fishing boats from other nations. Tied together like that they are immobile and pretty useless as sea control assets.
Unless and until I hear something from official Chinese government sources to suggest they are making a move in the SCS, I consider all other ‘news’ report as BS hot air and fake news.

No need to make a fuss about it, IMO. He never says anything about what "the end" means, which is probably deliberate. You can call it strategic ambiguity.
Most people who understand the military balance across the strait agree that as soon as PLA lands on the island, it's basically game over, or the end. In the past, Taiwan's defense minister made the confessions publicly in the Legislative Yuan that Taiwan military could hold at most two weeks in the face of PLA attacks, after being pressured by the members of the Legislative Yuan repeatedly. He was, obviously trying to be optimistic, in order to show confidence to the public in Taiwan.
As I said before, PLA is able to land on Taiwan anywhere between 3-7 days should mainland China decide to invade, from a pure military standpoint.
Its about 'probable cause' for a stop... usually its broken taillights.. then once they have you stopped they can say they smell alcohol or drugs or "saw" a weapon or illegal item (plainview doctrine) that allows them to do a full search or to arrest and detain you... then if you talk back its "resisting arrest" which is another charge in and of itself...Well ... you know ... the Americans are getting rather more creative with their security apparatus for the reasons to kill another black ...
