They're not negotiating on genocide; they're negotiating about the climate, which is a global concern. China would much rather inherit a healthy green earth from American leadership rather than one where everything is polluted and mutated. The US looked like a spoiled child in a temper tantrum when it left the Paris Accord and it is almost an equally childish look internationally for China to just say we're not talking to the US about anything cus they're on our ignore list.

So why talk? China is forging ahead with its climate change plans. They are already doing an enormous job to reduce emissions.

And what does the US do? Because Biden came and said a few sweet words, does this give him the qualification to hold a summit for climate change when there is not a single piece of federal legislation for greening the US?

I would much prefer if this meeting was led by the EU which is actually leading the world on climate change.

So China will have to attend the US led meeting just because Biden wants to assert leadership without doing anything to combat climate change. I dont know.about you but for me, this smells weakness from China that it quickly joins a summit for the ego of Biden

Its all a sham

Jevons paradox applies globally to nation states... they are trying to get China to curb its own economy so US can benefit by buying up resources for cheaper and polluting even more...

This is just like the START treaties...(turns out US had been cheating behind Russian backs, surprise surprise) in fact America has broken every single treaty it ever signed, starting with the Native Americans and as recent as the Iran deal

Because adults have meetings and talk about things that could have mutual benefits rather than saying, "I'm doing a great job, F you."

Anybody can hold a summit or a meeting. Boycotting these things just makes yourself absent and look childish to the people who attend. Let's hear what the US has to say; there's no commitments.

China doesn't have to do anything. Biden wants the world leaders to talk about climate protection and it's a good thing to talk about. Leadership is determined by who comes up with the ideas that other countries want to follow, and you can't present your ideas or challenge Biden's ideas if you self-isolated and didn't even go. Don't be small and look like you think the US has the cooties just because China and the US are in competition in other fields. The country that can think straight and keep composure has better command of the situation than the country that twists itself with anger and hate.

Most likely nothing meaningful will come of it, but China has a big heart so China is willing to talk if there is a chance for the global good. Snubbing these kinds of events is petty.

You may disagree even after your points are rebutted just because you don't think it feels right but when you insult China with accusations of weakness as if disagreeing with you makes someone weak, those insults will find you right back.

I demand Taiwan "government" make this statement public and official all over the world, so in the event of liberation of Taiwan, PLA has a certification not to take any prisoners of war. Also make clear if the "end" means only soldiers or including all living beings on the island, so PLA knows who is combatant.

They couldn't be bothered to create an alternate infrastructure investment scheme, so they decided to fund PR hitjobs instead

On the one hand I prefer a "climate summit" under the banner of UN, not by the initiative of USA regardless the "genocide" accusation. I don't like giving Biden the stage to claim leadership of the world (exactly what he is trying to do).

However on this occasion, I think one can make it an opportunity for China. It is "guest becomes the host" 反客为主 if you know the Chinese idiom. The invitation is from Biden to other leaders, so we can say it is a party hosted by Biden. Xi as a guest can list the Chinese achievement and the recent pledged carbon reduction goal. Then ask US to make the same commitment and take the same measures in front of all the guests and the world. Xi can very well take over the initiative and act as the leader. If Xi successfully do so, I doubt Biden would ever do similar things again.

It is for this opportunity that China has a reason to attend. Of course, not attending is also ok but it makes China look defensive and reactive instead of proactive and responsible (to the world, not the US).
