My prediction is that after Assad falls, Syria will still not see peace. Erdogan's Ottoman project in Syria will begin, and he too will have no peace
After Assad falls, the US will be in an even better position to influence Turkey. With Syria a collapsed and chaotic state, the Kurds could be funded and armed quite easily by the US whenever Erdogan tries to remove his US leash.

Erdogan thinks he is some kind of genius but in reality he is just a jumbing clown in the eyes of the superpowers of the world, US and China.

And thus another chapter seems to be ending soon. What I'm amazed is how it just happened so fast. Like not much happened for years and suddenly the government is gone in like 2 weeks.

They had the chance to finish the job but they didn't and now they're paying the price. But to be fair even if they did make the mistake letting the rebels rearm, one would not expect them to just collapse after two weeks.

There must of been false confidence planted because he was so confident that he took his entire family on a trip to China. This is similar to the page plants and Hezbollah leadership quick annihilation. It was planted that Hezbollah was powerful yada yada ....

In the context of China , easy confidence could also lead to easy fall. I take all these US wargames that they/taiwan will quickly lose for a grain of salt.

I think the most puzzling part was why he went to China/why did China let him have a high profile visit. Though China didn't let him visit Beijing so clearly China was also hesitant. CCTV's has a female Syria reporter 王薇薇(@

Bread and circus, economy drives everything, Syria needed China to develop, Chinese economic assistance is arguably more important than Russia during peacetime, but China need a stable country to work with and freezing the war without finishing the job precluded that.

The same is true for a lot of places right now, France, Germany and South Korean goverments all collapsed, US reelected Trump with his fun plans, UK conservatives basically gave up power, and Georgia and Romania just went ahead and ditched elections.

When times are good you can get away with a lot of things, when times are bad nobody cares about ideology. So from this perspective the economic stability and prosperity brought by China's Belt and Road initiative and BRICS trade becomes perhaps the singular most powerful force in redefining the new world order

If Erdogan wants to continue on his Ottoman project, he is going to go after the US-backed Kurds, then Lebanon, then Iraq, and later on, Egypt. The US and Israel are not gonna allow him to become too powerful. Russia might just play behind the shadows for awhile, and Iran will try to intervene in Lebanon and Iraq. If he expands his Pan-Turkic Empire agenda to Xinjiang once again, he will also have China to contend with.

Erdogan enjoys playing around with the US, Russia, and China for fools. He is going to overstretch one day and the superpowers are going to come after him and burn his Ottoman project to the ground.

This the picture i was referring too. It very sad reflection on Iranians. why even agree to a meeting about an Arab country without Arabs. (JCPOA without Arab signature) They didnot learn from 1980s Saddam where much less sophisticated Arabs fought for 8 years to destroy and flee the educated class of Iran. Now the super sophisticated Arabs are using Israelis, Russians and Turks to deal with Iran.
Iran didnot learn from that Afghan collapse either. Collapse not just due to organized Taliban takeover but the previous government money siphoned into Arab economic system. This is Master class of working with both sides. Deep down Putin feel embarrassed from the contribution of Desert culture that he will have to kick back side of everyone for them. That Soft Power and wealth is increasing in Russian society as you only replicate that thing that has some resemblance.

. Discussing the UAE's experience in working on the demographic problem, he emphasized that the enormous state financial support for the birth rate did not bring the desired result to this country, and explained why.
They had a birth rate per woman of five. In one generation it became three. And in Dubai it was 2.1 per generation. And this is due to the fact that the emir issued a decree on the mandatory quota of hiring women at 50 percent. Accordingly, women were taken from their families and began to be employed.

Look at these comments... There is not one person who thinks that the killer should be caught or that the CEO didn't deserve to get murdered. I bet you the shooter would be welcomed to shelter in any home during a manhunt. Americans are really only anti-communism pro-capitalism because they don't know what these words mean; they are just taught to love and hate without understanding or reason.
You have to wonder what kind of society the US is becoming.

An sunni islamist group in control of Syria will be a much bigger threat than Hezbollah for Israel. Palestinians are Sunnis too. And Sunni's have always had a much bigger brotherly feeling towards Palestine than Shite groups. Moreover, Turkey is no longer as friendly to Israel with Islamist Erdogan in power. I consider Turkey to be an anti-western trojan horse in Nato, slowly gaining power. Turkey will soon be a bigger threat to US power in the middle-east than even Iran. Turkey has rich heritage of dominating the middle east and they want to regain that dominance once again.

A non-sunni Alawaite government cannot rule a Sunni majority Syria forever, this collapse was bound to happen. Even if this new group is not so pro-Iran, as long as its anti-Israel and anti-US, Iran will find ways to make use of them, and also Russia and China.
Syria will become a completed failed country with no hope whatsoever from a failed country. It's hard to predict who will benefit from such a failed state. BTW, it seems that all the US and the West can do nowadays is to make countries fail.

Noah Smith is at it again.
