The nukes were stationed in Ukraine. But the warheads were made in Russia, the control mechanism for the trigger was in Moscow, even the rockets which were produced in Ukraine used engines originally designed in Russia by Energomash. If Ukraine was not part of the Soviet Union, the successor state of the Russian Empire, they would have had no nukes and no aerospace industry to speak of.
It's so stupid.
I want Medvedev to meme them and reply with "What's that? You want those old nukes back? It can be arranged, fast delivery be at your front door in 15 minutes".
Clearly Yaroslav hunka is not enough. Clearly they need to create the Bandera youth inorder to make the WW2 Veterans roll their graves and rememberance day was 11 days ago.

Read between the lines, they just want to give American nukes to Ukraine with returning Soviet nukes as a PR cover, people who are dumb enough to do this will also be dumb enough to think the cover matters and Russia wont just nuke US in response to an attack.
It will also lead to Iran developing nukes overnight of course, plus Ukraine getting wiped out before they receive the first one

Russia can just nuke the nukes the moment they arrive in Ukraine, no need to nuke US.
Having a viable nuke does not automatically give you deterrence. You need systems to deliver them in sufficient numbers. This is the most expensive and time consuming part. It took 20 years for NK to get capability to hit most of US, despite benefitting from China's experience. Even today, Israel cannot hit all of Iran even with supposed nukes. India cannot hit most of the northern hemisphere, and Pakistan can't hit much outside of India.
It's all hypotheticals anyways since there's no such thing as remaining Ukrainian SSR nukes. Russia picked them clean, and they always had control over the main components anyways. What remains is likely not even something that can be described as remnants of nukes, but more like rusty empty casings that once held nukes.
Russia will nuke Ukraine first, infact it gives Russia casus belli to do so, but making Ukraine destroy itself is in line with everything else the west told Ukraine to do so far.
One thing we can conclude is the west must be extremly desperate if they're resorting to these ideas, which is a good thing if properly managed
I can't find better articles now because of the current news cycle, but I believe some of the ex-USSR nuclear warheads were being shipped to North America for disposal. I remember an old hand talking about this project
