Re: Military FAQ

Hey guys, haven't posted in a long time, school sucks.

Anyways, I'd like to learn about the Chinese MIRV developments, if they don't, then the possibilities of developing one, and the technical skills required to build one that China has and does not have.

Re: Military FAQ

hi,

You should first know the types MRV(multiple reentry vehicle) and MIRV(multiple independently targeted reentry).

A MRV is a bunch of warheads in one missile. It is used as a area attack weapon for targets which are spread out of larger because they attack a large area. This one can only attack one area at a time and is mostly used because it can attack a much larger area than the largest possibl yeild warhead. and only needs one missile.

China definatly has this technology because it can launch multiple satellites with just one rocket which is basicly this technology

----------

A MIRV is like a MRV but all its warheads can be targeted at different places and only uses one missile to target multiple areas. This technology would be useful for china because it can attack a lot more targets with its small amount of missiles.

The main technology involed in a MIRV is a miniturized warhead. Its about under 500Kt to be used to destroy a city or other important structures. China at this point should be capable of making warheads small enough to fit three or so warheads in one missile.

From the chinese warhead test it looks like china is trying to develop this capability

The main reason the chinese used higher yields is becauses their missiles were incredibly inaccurate and needed to make the yields large to actually hit a target. while the americans had smaller yields becauses their missiels were more accurate. But now chinas missile have a low CEP it is not nessary to have higher yields and make smaller warheads

I am not going to say a definate answer becauses i have not seen a picture or report of such so im pretty much making a informed guess.

The guidence system for a missile is pretty much developed since china fields many IRBM and MRBM. It does not have the same warhead but a GPS type guidence and inertial guidance used on the DF-5 and DF-4 can be used on multiple warheads.

Last but not least is a decoy system. Most large missiles like the peace maker or the SS-25 have complex decoy systems which release very very large amount of flares to trick american missiles.

End Note

In my opinion china has already got this capability or is in the final development stage of development. It would be the chinese reactions againest the american SDI

Re: Military FAQ

Great, thanks for the reply!

Hey mods, are we allowed to post one liners in this thread? Since it's FAQ anyway, just to ask a question or saying thanks doesn't take a whole paragraph.

Re: Military FAQ

it's not a big deal for me if you post oneliner in this thread as long as it's a question, or the full answer to someone else's question. but that will only apply this thread and no other.

Re: Military FAQ

Hi Guys
We have seen so many pictures of Minsk and Kiev when there were still in service. However does anyone have any pictures of airplanes actually taking off from Minsk/Kiev. If so please post it and i'll be very grateful.

Thank you all.

The planes were completely useless and actually very dangerous to use...They were finaly grounded in 1990 and most of them scrapped....

not in 1990. i thin some were still taking off in 1991, right after the end of the cold war. but there are none left now.

Re: Military FAQ

I wonder if I should've posted this question in the land warfare section. Is this thread on Chinese army only, or?
Oh well, here it goes anyways:

It's a tank gun-related question(s).
1. What exactly does a thermal sleeve on a tank gun do? Is it for cooling the tube after firing or preventing outside temperature affect it? I read somewhere it prevents bending but I am not sure just how? Is it made of metal?
Can we assume that the external diameter of a typical tank gun that we percieve is much larger than it would've been if it were a regular artillery tube?

2. What's the expanded part in the middle section of western tank gun(s)? Why does appear much bigger than in russian 2A46 series? If I'm correct to assume that's the fume extractor, why isn't it at the mouth of the gun barrel? I'm puzzled as to how it works.

Thanks.
