Re: Military FAQ

That could be the Moskit on steroids!

Could be some sort of Moskit variant that was never fully developed.

Honestly I don't know what that is. Probaly someone like Gollevainen would know. He's so smart you know!:p

Re: Military FAQ

It's moskit alright, without any stereoids... 3800kg missiles tends to be big....

Hey mods, I've been wondering, why do soldiers nowadays still use radio, instead of cell phones or something? (I know this sounds stupid, but still) What are the advantages of using radio over cell phone and what are some of the disadvantages?

Cellphone coverage sucks from places to places... you have to bounce it off satellites which can be intercepted... and from the looks of it's not really durable (you get it wet it's dead) and battery life sucks (on average 3 hours of talk time)..
Just my opinion... wouldn't be a bad thing if a soldier had a cellphone as back up though...

Re: Military FAQ

if you mean phones whit wire connections, They have the advantage to be almoust non jammable and secure lines, (though time-consuming to build the lines) and were still used by the "122" battery (tough we in the fireposition battery only used those singal equipment of the new "155" battery)

But if you mean cell phones (wireless ones) i think you can track them more easily as it's hard to change the freaquensy...with the radios we had, we shifted the channel and freaquensy every hour. But i must confess my experience with radioes and stuff is limited to the frustraiting job of connecting all the wires to the radio in -20 degree....without your no-can-dos (battlemittens)...man the guy who designed the plugs earns to be shot....

Perhaps someone else could lighten us more about those radio wave things...
