With the multinational search already in its fourth week, several items were recovered in the Indian Ocean over the weekend but none of it belonged to the missing Boeing 777-200ER.
Hishammuddin also declined today to disclose what moves would be taken if the search exceeds 30 days, when the batteries of the plane’s “black boxes” are expected to wear out.
“What happens after 30 days expires has also been discussed and I don’t think this is an appropriate press conference to reveal that,” said Hishammuddin, who is also the defence minister.
Last week, Hishammuddin said in a daily press conference on the missing MH370 that the search operation might start using deep-sea search and salvage methods after the end of the 30-day period.
Today, he explained that the decision to use the towed pinger locator — a piece of equipment that can detect signals emitted by the black boxes as long as they are still transmitting — was made on the advice of the team involved in finding the crashed Air France flight 447.
According to Hishammuddin, the ADV Ocean Shield ship — fitted with the US’s towed pinger locator and a Bluefin 21 autonomous underwater vehicle — is expected to arrive in the search area on April 3.
This will give searchers approximately five days before the signal from the “black boxes” are set to go silent.
The minister had repeatedly stressed the importance of finding the MH370’s black boxes — its flight data and cockpit voice recorders — to help to unravel the mystery over the plane’s fate.
But with the plane missing since March 8, the black boxes are expected to stop sending out signals in seven days’ time.
This would further complicate a multinational search which has already been hampered by bad weather in recent days.
The search for the plane is now converged on a remote location in the southern Indian Ocean west of Perth, after Malaysia announced on March 24 that satellite data showed the flight “ended somewhere” in the waters there.


He was responding to a reporter's question. The fact of the matter is he never suddenly expressed his point of view that "the plane might never be found". The news media simply just make up the story that the minister actually said: "the plane might never be found".

What the minister actually said in response to a question "on whether a “backup plan” existed in the event that no debris linked to the missing plane is found" was this: “We have discussed it, but I think to be fair to the families, that is something we will not share at this moment because our focus is to find the aircraft.”

I heard two interesting theories over the week:

Let's get some facts straight first. Evidence point to this is no accident, more of an deliberate act when the plane transponders were subsequently turned off within 15 minutes apart. The plane were still flying in the air for at least 5 hours after losing contact with ATC according to the engine data.

1st theory: The pilots hijacked the plane with passengers on-board as an bargaining chip for the Malaysian government to release Anwar Ibrahim (jailed politically for homosexuality shortly after announcing campaigning for the next deputy prime minister for the opposition party) who Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah is an frantic supporter and is related thru his son-in-law side. Co-pilot Fariq Ab Hamid (1st officer) is also an supporter for the opposition party.

The plan was to hold the passenger of different nationality on board the plane as hostage until the Malaysian government agreed to their demand, that is to release Anwar Ibrahim unconditionally. If goes accordingly the plane would land near an remote tourist island and fake mechanical failure to release the passenger.

In early March, China had sent 8 scientists to Malaysia to inspect the equipment usefulness.

After sealing the deal, China decided the best and safest way to bring the equipments back to China is thru Malaysian civilian air cargo, that is MH370.

The U.S. intelligence is aware of this secret dealing, China betting on the fact that is an civilian aircraft the U.S. wouldn't do anything reckless risking the lives of those on board and that there are multinational from other countries.

China then proceed to buy the wreckage aircraft pieces from the Serbian farmers to study the ram coating materials and hid it under the basement of the Chinese embassy to be brought back to China for further studies, not knowing at the time that high-tech U.S. military equipments has some device built in that emits some signal even though it is lost on the ground for U.S. intelligence to pick up its location to retrieve back or to be destroyed completely from falling into enemies hand.

The U.S. intelligence decided to drop JDAM GPS-guided precision bombs programmed to penetrate 3 building floors to destroy its target. No offense intended to anyone, but the pilot suicide theory simply makes no sense.

People who commit suicide tend to leave a note. If they just want to disappear off the face of the earth without anyone noticing, hijacking a plane with over 200 people seems decidedly counter productive.

Similarly, if the pilot wanted to go out with as much impact as possible, flying the plane to the middle of nowhere, where it might never be found also seems calculated to do the exact opposit of what he intended.

If it was pilot suicide, flying the plane for 7 hours seems like a pretty pointless risk as that gives the rest of the crew and passengers ample time to break into the cockpit and stop him.

If it was pilot suicide, the most, and IMHO, only plausible course of action the pilot could have taken was to either pitch the plane nose first into an uncontrollable drive into the Ocean along the plane's original flight path to minimise the chances of anyone being able to stop him. Or wait until he was over a major city and then crashing the plane into a major landmark or large building for maximum carnage and impact.

In either case, I would have expected some sort of suicide note or video, because you have to be incredible narcissistic to want over 200 people to die with you when you commit suicide, risking not getting the 'credit' for such an act just seems totally out of character.

If we were to apply Occam's Razor to the bear facts, assuming the plane really did go down where everyone is now thinking it did, then the obvious explanation for why someone would want to ditch the plane in such a remote area, so far from its original flight path and any plausible destination would be if whoever did it does not want the plane to ever be found.

Call me biased, but I think that if the plane did go down between Australia and Antarctic, it adds more credence to my earlier theory that the plane was taken to stop someone, or something from reaching Beijing, and making the plane disappear was intended to cover up the theft or abduction.

If the plane indeed went East rather than West as originally thought, that makes it far more likely that this was done by a state level organisation rather than a private criminal enterprise since whoever took the plane, assuming they wanted to live, would have needed to bail out over water rather than land. Which requires far greater skill and co-ordination to have a ship waiting close enough to pick them up afterwards.

Now, I know full well that that theory is opens me up to all sorts of tinfoil hat jibes, but that's the direction all the clues are pointing me towards, and I'm not going to ignore what my gut tells me just because the conclusion is a little out there. If anyone disagrees, please feel free to point to any holes or flaws in my chain of thought.

The problem with that theory is if it were a hijacking incident, than how come all communication were cut off (assuming that it is according to news)? Wouldn't the hijacker wants to talk to the government in order to negotiate a deal?

I'm also not sure either, but from what I heard, said is that they turned off the tracking off the aircraft so it cannot be located.

I suppose there are some holes in the theories... but that is all what I can remember, don't take it too seriously, I suppose since I can't verify the sources.

Was this published some where because I would love to read this? Anything that detailed is always suspect especially the second scenario. China could just fly in and take it back to China. they do share a small border. They don't need to bother with a third party. The question comes up how did they get out of Afghanistan. If the US and Israel was tracking it they would've destroyed it with drones. After all if it were this sensitive to go through all this, the US would've been keeping eyes on the crash site until they extracted what was important or destroyed it.

China could just fly in and take it back to China. they do share a small border. They don't need to bother with a third party. The question comes up how did they get out of Afghanistan. If the US and Israel was tracking it they would've destroyed it with drones. After all if it were this sensitive to go through all this, the US would've been keeping eyes on the crash site until they extracted what was important or destroyed it.

I remember someone in a different forum, responding to a similar suggestion said "then it has to be time to cue in the silohouette of a tuxedo clad man carrying a Walther P38 and accompanied by Monty Normans theme music."

really both theories are better left to cheap spy thrillers.

Theory one. Problem would the pilot Hijackers even need to take off in the first place? I mean here is a idea, recruit some more guys who will take control of the passengers sneak weapons for them on board, arm them before flight pull the plane away from the terminal building kill the engines and have the guards post up as you announce your demands. Since the Air crew is in on it they know who works the airport and when some one is trying to sneak in as maintenance. They have full access to the plane and can pass unchecked through areas of the Airport not seen by passengers. Then you play the waiting game until they give you what you want. Or here's another if they had the plan to land on some Tourist island recruit more guys arm them and set up your own secure airport. The pilots take off they then lock the door and fly there and make there demands from terra firma why fly around like a moron till you run outa gas and nose dive?
Two if that's your plan and your want to fly and negotiate why not keep the passengers none the wiser? Why pull the stunts? The second the sharp climb everyone knows its all gone pear shaped.


Theory two. If I was the PRC government And I just bought something that was stolen from the Americans and I decided to ship it on a civilian flight I would have agents on the flight. Second part of this plan what in pray tell was supposed to happen to the flight crew and passengers at Diego Garcia? And when they got to China? I mean the Chinese would find out that the US pull this stunt real quick. Unless Of course the passengers all died, then what happened to the Israeli and American mission impossible team? Did they die to? And If MAS370 did land at Diego Garcia how in the be of hell did the US keep it under wraps? There have to be thousands of people on that base American navy and Air force. The bigger the conspiracy the less a secret. Did the US simply swear them all to secrecy? Really thousands of people who could have seen a civilian jet not just land but also take off... On a base that the PRC watches like a pervert does his hot neighbor who leaves the blinds open.
And finally, American Drones are operated via satcom from locations far away from the battlefield, unless the Taliban was raiding Bahgram or its doubtful they would have gotten any thing that critical to the USA Drone program unless it was the Drone itself in which case as Mace said why did the US not hellfire it into a fine powder? And even the historical grounding was bull the F117 was downed as a stroke of luck. The flight planers got complacent and kept reusing the same flight path. Eventually someone figured it out and parked a missile launcher there. The missile shot at the Chinese embassy is a favorite of conspiracy theories, but even the best of equipment can fail.
Theory two is frankly a 9/11 Theory rewrite.

I have yet to see conspiracy theories that incorporate the satellite pings. That would immensely complicate the plot that have to bring in the satellite company and maybe some countries.

CCTV just reported that Haixun 01 has detected a 37.5kHz once per second ping signal near Lat. 25S Long. 101E.

Guys this is from official CCTV News Weibo account: China's Haixun 01 has found signals of 37.5kHz at an interval of once per second using a black box locator at 25 degrees South and 101 degrees East, in the Southern Indian Ocean. If it's anything related to MH370 remains in question but two more Chinese ships are now heading to the location to further analyse and confirm.

Let's keep our fingers crossed and hope that this is indeed what we have all been searching for, and that a month's of efforts by all the nations are not wasted.

Edit: More details: according to People's Daily's official Weibo account, there are three operators who all confirmed that they have detected the signal, and for a period of about one and half minutes.
