Hence China waited for this long so as to let Raging Nationalist Indians cool off and gave Modi Govt a breather . Indians were happy believing 45 PLA casualties and Indian appetite for war died along with this figure.
Am i in favor of this approach? Absolutely not. China unnecessarily gave Modi a breathing space and a domestic PR victory even when they were the aggressor in this whole episode.

Still doesn’t change the fact that 30 of their soldiers got captured and that they basically were too scared to fetch the bodies of their dead until the second day no matter how much they argue.

To china, the Modi govt is not an as serious issue to concern as the Trump admin at that time, China didn't want to give Trump and Modi a good excuse to officially allied each other. And also that time China wan to concentrate more power on Taiwan and SCS in case Trump tried something overspill for his election.
All India doesn't have is a US base on its territory, in every other aspect its as good as an official US ally. Even in Ladakh, the outgoing US ambassador admitted that US was giving them real time intelligence . India has also signed all foundational military agreements with US. The notion that India shouldn't be pushed to the west is redundant as its already in their lap.

The problem with India is that they don't have even a Chinese POW to show for it, whereas China at least have a few pictures of PLA medics treating wounded jawans. Throughout the past 24 months they've a few cases of Chinese (civilians and PLA) strayed into India side but all we got so far were "they were send back to the other side a few days later", not even parade one on camera.
