I think a big factor in the PAF not going for the J10 is because they are waiting on the Chinese single engine 5th gen.

A J10 buy will only grant them technological parity, but does not really change the strategic balance due to Indian numbers.

A 5th gen will fundamentally change the entire strategic balance as it will allow the PAF to defeat a numerically superior opponent with high confidence.

I think the PAF would be much more clued in on the projected timeframe for the J31/35 or maybe even an equivalent offering from CAC. As such, they might have decided to save up to buy straight into the future Chinese single engined 5th gen once that becomes available.

With recent Indian shenanigans on the boarder, China is probably in the mood to shit in India’s curry, and may expedite approvals and export clearances. Although I would expect that China would demand at a minimum equivalent security measures as what the BlK60 F16s are getting, and may even limit the PAF 5th gens to operating from Chinese bases while in peacetime. That means the planes can fly into Pakistan for training, but must return to bases on the Chinese side to ensure hostile foreign forces do not gain unauthorised access.

Pakistan's problem isn't in the air right now. The PAF is on the right growth curve and has multiple options to continue growing.

The problem is the army. I think we are 2 armored divisions short, which forces us into a defensive posture. Also, the brass needs to change their culture, how they think and train... It does seem like more attention is being shifted to the army now, but it will take a decade to catch them up. And all of this depends on the economic improvements which need to continue.

Anyways, this is off topic.

I like your ideas below

What future single-engine 5th gen?

The main strategy here is to beef up your ally to the stage whereby they are strong enough to take care of themselves easily and thus help to drag your common enemy down, so that China will not need to face the same enemy at multiple fronts.

Problem is Pakistan ain't exactly a Japan or South Korea. It's economy is doing pretty badly now and China just loaned them another $6B.

Better to just give them low-cost, asymmetric capabilities.

It used to be in the US interest to keep South Asia from going nuclear, idk if they still care.

Actually I do wish that my country actually ban the Indians from getting into my country. I am not racists or have anything against them... But as the number goes... There are JUST SO many of them getting the covid and we sure don't want another outbreak that will most definitely kill our economy.

And it seemed that India is in a denial stage right now. Instead of really going into their Covid problem, they are wasting precious resources in trying to fight two fronts...

They keep blaming China for this and other economic problems. That's why they will be stuck in the middle income trap.
Regionalism and religious conservatism is an absolute poison for any country? For a developing country it might as well be a terminal illness.
For all the problems, the Cultural Revolution is not without its reason.
