Is China content with the new status quo for a permanent resolution to the issue of the border, or would it just be banking the revised border and making further demands? That's one of the problems I see with a long-term solution, as it's not clear what Beijing would accept short of getting 100% of what it wants (although one would hope it would agree to a compromise).

China settled land borders with all her neighbours except India and its protectorate Bhutan. That should tell you something

No. There will be new moves.

Any problem?

Really? I'm pretty sure I've been told by people here that China never makes the first aggressive move and always acts defensively. If China wants to annex more territory on the basis that it can, as opposed to because India has already started an offensive, then that's a decision for it to make.

China will punish anyone who tries to take her territory, just like any normal country, Britain included

Nobody said the current issue is over. China's reaction can last/continue a long time after the initial offence that elicited its actions are over (due mostly to lack of enemy capability to continue). It's still defense, but a very robust one to deter future transgressions as well. China cannot control when the conflict starts, but it isn't over until China says it is.

Then why did the PRC accept Russia's historic annexation of what was China's historic NE region? There was some territorial restoration in the modern era, but the vast majority of the land ceded by the Treaties of Aigun and Peking in the 19th centuries haven't been overturned - treaties that historically China referred to as unfair. Indeed the PRC's agreements with Russia recognise those formerly Chinese lands as Russian.

Is the PRC secretly plotting to retake that land in the future when Russia's guard is down? Or could it be that sometimes China makes concessions when it's in everyone's interests?

You don't know the answer to this question? Your force is always the limit of your reason. If China had no choice due to its weakness at the time, it will lose territory. Hong Kong was once robbed from China as well. If Argentina ever got their act together, you will lose the Falklands. But there is no current move or motive for China to retake those territories because Russia is a very powerful country that has acted mostly as an ally to China, especially in critical times. If Russia becomes hostile and begins to engage in border escalations and military shenanigans, China could well plan to take those territories back in retaliation.

India gets the same deal. If it sits there and doesn't push anything, it doesn't lose anything. If it's a political ally, even better. But it failed to do either and is now suffering the consequences.
