Sure looks like bhakts are struggling to defend this move from Russia. Not long ago, they were saying how Russia is best buddies with India, and Russia-China was souring. Now this line of argument has completely collapsed. The comments say it all. Some mental gymnastics there

What choice do they have? If they tick off papa Russia then support for Brahmos, Sukhois, Migs, and rented nuclear subs will be cut off.

The level of reward is very much based on individual action and group action. Typically if one soldier gets a recognition, the whole squad probably got it. In order to get 2nd level or 1st level it is basically metal of honor level.

Essentially beating some jawans are considered a stroll in the park for PLA, so a 3rd level recognition is needed, but it's not hard enough for go to 2nd.

Somali pirates are harder to beat, since they fight back.

I would say around 80% of India defense hardware and most probably - software too came from Russia. Without Russia, India would be worst off. That is the problem with Indians, even with a more favourable geographical location and global situation, they still manage to screw things up.

They are buying more and more from the west now.

Well the farmers got the right idea... I mean cows are the biggest weapon they have against Hindu nationalists... as Hindus they can’t exactly shoot or gas cows in broad day

Depends how far India goes. India is a big customer for Russia, so it would have to be a major change of foreign policy to lead to India being cut off.

Russia has sold India plenty of material, but there's no realistic prospect of it providing direct assistance if India was involved in a military conflict. Can Moscow really complain if New Delhi cooperates with countries that might, in theory, be willing to back it up to even a limited degree?

I think Russia's recent comments are fairly cynical and are simply designed to try to convince India not to join with the USA and its allies in forming a counterweight to China, because for now it suits Russia in having China cause headaches for said countries. Is there anything behind those words? I'm not so sure.
