The decision to capture high ground that was previously unoccupied along the 3,488 kilometer (2,162 mile) Line of Actual Control revived a conflict that had been largely dormant since June.
While India denied that troops crossed the Line of Control, the move will prevent China from easily monitoring an Indian road that’s crucial for transporting supplies, soldiers and heavy artillery to forward posts along the disputed border.

Looks like the Indian soldier was indeed killed in a confrontation with the Chinese ... only with a Chinese landmine though instead of bullets being fired.

How do they know it is a Chinese landmine?
That said if it was a directional anti-personnel mine then it would explain why some people thought the wound was inflicted by a bullet.
If it was a Chinese landmine then the whole Indian news media would make a big fuss about it.
I still think that they got blasted by a defective landmine they were burying.
