Jeff, do you know what Airshow is happening in China? I don't think is Zhuhai Airshow, right?

According to the above quote, the airshow is in Shaanxi province.

It was at an air show demonstration and not a training mission, so possibly there was only the pilot on board at the time.

Sadly not, since even Chinese media speaks of one pilot "missing in action" :( .. and here on that photo You can see him during his last moments. R.I.P.

My understanding is the ejected pilot in the picture is the one who survived. This pilot and a whole lot of other people should know whether the second pilot did climb aboard or slip out at the last moment. It's very unlikely the organizer would not have known whether or not the second pilot was aboard.

XI'AN, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- A pilot who went missing after his plane crashed on Friday during an air show in northwest China was confirmed dead on Saturday.

The announcement was made by Jin Qiansheng, an official from the Yanliang National Aviation High-tech Industrial Base, during the International General Aviation Convention 2011 in Xi'an, capital of Shaanxi Province.

A plane crashed to the ground after finishing its performance at 10:47 a.m. Friday in Pucheng County, where a three-day air show is being staged for an ongoing aviation convention.

The dead pilot was seated in the front of the plane, while the plane's second pilot survived by ejecting from the plane before the crash, Jin said.

The surviving pilot, who suffered no serious injuries, is currently being examined at a local hospital, Jin said.

The plane has been identified as an FBC-1 fighter jet, also known as a Flying Leopard, which is manufactured by the Xi'an Aircraft Industry Corp.

Jin said the jet is not currently in service, but was invited to the show by an institute affiliated with the Aviation Industry Corporation of China.

"Whatever setbacks and problems we encounter, we must proceed without hesitation," Jin said.

There have been no reports of deaths on the ground in connection with the crash.

Yes ... You can see him hanging in the para besides the planes ... but this was not the pilot but the WSO from the back-reat, while You clearly can see the real pilot in fromt with his white helmet !

Yes, there was. From that instant, there was some time for the pilots to eject.
