Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

It looks like a second regiment is getting formed in the 28th division. So we should have four regiments in plaaf now and nine overall. Production level was at one regiment a year for a few years, but I think it has tapered off a little bit in the last couple of years.

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

When tphuang speaks of 5 naval regiments, he includes the two JH-7 regiments.

There does seem to have been some sort of hickup on the road, since no less than 18 JH-7A were seen at Xi’an AC Yanliang on 06.08.10, but they only turned up at Jiaxing late 2011.

Perhaps we may see the next JH-7A regiment, expected to be 15 Attack Div 45 Regt,
quite soon.

The timetable for JH-7A deliveries appears to look like this:

9 PLANAF Div 27 Regt 2004 ex J-7B

28 Attack Div 83 Regt Hangzhou-Jianqiao 2005 ex Q-5

5 PLANAF Div 14 Regt Yantai-Laishan 2006 ex Q-5

5 Attack Div 15 Regt Weifang 2007 ex Q-5

7 PLANAF Div 20 Regt Shanhaiguan 2008 ex Q-5

11 Attack Div 31 Regt Siping 2009 ex Q-5D

28 Attack Div 84 Regt Jiaxing 2011 ex Q-5D

Since 28 Attack Div has got a second JH-7A regiment, it does now seem likely that all Q-5 regiments will convert to JH-7A. At a rate of one regiment per year, that would be finished in 2018.

As to the ”antique” Q-5, as many as 20 were seen at Hongdu AC at Nanchang-Jiangxi on 09.10.10. I suppose they are mainly or exclusively Q-5J twin-seaters.

this is quite interesting. if you check scramble, they already updated showing JH-7A at this base. Saying this conversion happened at end of last year and beginning of this year. That would make this the 5th JH-7A regiment in PLAAF. It's interesting what this means to JH-7A production numbers. We are probably at over 250 JH-7 aircraft now and ongoing. A lot larger than some expected.

How did you get to 250 JH-7 ?

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

That is simple enough: 5 PLAAF and 3 PLANAF JH-7A regiments 24 x 8 = 192

2 PLANAF JH-7 regiments, aircraft serials 81662-81867, 82062-82264. Assuming that 81661 and 82061 also exist, that makes 27 + 24.

Grand total: 192 + 51 = 243.

It's also significant that during the 2010-2011 time frame XAC upgraded the JH7A line to a moving line, the second one in China (first is Tianjin A320, third is GAC L15). So production rate should pick up starting in 2011.
