Relatively inferior in performance in payload and range... it would be more comparable to the SEPECAT Jaguar.

JH-7A has a combat radius of 1100 km carrying 4 AShMs. I'd have to dig this figures up, but I remember it has a better payload x range number than tornado and F-18s. In terms of ground attack, it carries a more complete package of weapon and ground attack sensors than Su-30s.

Adding more:
A while back, I read that the combat radius of 1600 km was measured under carrying 1 AShM + 2 PL-8 + 3 external fuel tank in hi-lo-hi flight profile, with 2 AShm, it's 1300 km. Hard to say the exact figure, but the scenario carrying 2 AShM and 2 SRAAM with 3 external fuel tank is a pretty standard load.

JH-7,yes but not JH-7A. WS-9 which is largely based on Sprey engine has very good economic fuel consumption. JH-7A is redesign of JH-7 with the large and heavy wing fence on the bottom removed and replace with twin smaller and lighter one. Engines are upgrade with WS-9 II with up thrust. Tornado still have better payload but range I think JH-7A has surpassed it.

I wonder how accurate are these information. Basically, they have about the same performances except for the max speed which can be attributed to the Tornado having variable sweep wing.

JH-7A is a huge aircraft. I wonder why some can think of it short legged. It might even flown without droptank. Depend on the mission profile.

what the T:W ration for spey/WS-9 engine/ chinese aviation mag. claim it was 1:5.05,but website said it's 1:6.2,which is correct?

绝大喜讯:中国最新型隐身飞豹JH-7B战机试飞成功

日前 据西飞相关可靠人士透露: 新型隐身飞豹JH-7B已经试飞成功并已经定型,新歼轰-7B是一种发双双座双垂尾翼气动布局的全天候隐身歼击轰炸机。虽然有原飞豹的"身骨"垫底,但是为了适应新型的大推力发动机,因此不得不将新飞豹机身尺寸进行适度放大调整。由于新型发动机的进气量和单位推力比原发动机增强了近50%以上,加之隐身外形的设计需要,所以新飞豹无法简单的沿用和放大原飞豹的机体。新型“贝斯”发动机比“涡扇WS-9"和"劳思赖斯"发动机直径要大,而且也短。因此,有关科研人员对原机的气动外形以及内部机体结构进行了大刀阔斧的改进!其工作量之大之复杂,绝不亚于重新设计一架新飞机。

在经过了科研人员的辛勤努力,"飞豹-7B有了"脱胎换骨"的表现。歼轰-7B采用当代最前沿DSI蚌式I进气道设计,机身大量采用新型符合材料,因此飞机机体重量比以前轻了许多,而且机体结构强度也比原来有所增强。 由于机体增大使机内燃油量大幅增加,因此歼轰-7B的作战半径在我军现役装备的几种新型作战飞机作战半径中首屈一指。




从外形看;中国的“歼轰-7B”改用了新设计的中等后掠角带前缘襟翼式上单翼。另外,为了提高隐身性能和强化气动外形,“JH-7B”使用了“S”形进气道,并在进气道内喷涂新型纳米吸波涂料,以减少飞机正面雷达反射截面积和红外线信号特征,并且具备翼身融合技术,全机新型复合材料的应用明显增加。“歼轰 -7B”的加油方式已经改改进为内藏伸缩“软式”加油设备,以此来进一步加强整机的隐身性。因此,“歼轰-7B”是中国首种使用电脑辅助设计修正外形的隐身歼击轰炸机。




从隐身性能看;由于“歼轰-7B”使用了新研制的隐身吸波涂料,使得该机被探测到的概率大为降低。此外,后期改良型号将加大新型复合材料的使用面积,座舱盖边缘,武器内置且武器舱门边缘等处采用锯齿状的结合线条,可以有效的降低雷达波的反射。由于机载武器采用了内载式和外挂兼顾的方式,以此来进一步降低红外特征。预计由于采取了有效的隐身措施后,“歼轰-7B”的雷达横截面(RCS)将不大于XXX平方米。









这是歼轰-7A的后驾驶舱屏显.歼轰-7B不应低于这个水平。

豹总设计师唐长红说:“新飞豹B完全脱胎换骨,飞行能力、操纵性能、载弹量、作战半径、机动性都有极大提高,不用续航可飞抵西沙,完成保卫领海的使命。”

新飞豹B到底“牛”在哪儿?





———飞豹开创了中国全机数字化设计的先河,设计出我国航空史上第一架全机数字战机,这标志着中国飞机设计手段的革命和与国际先进水平全面接轨。

———首次在国内实现全机电子样机协调和预装配,实现了飞机研制从设计到生产的无纸化模式,提高了设计生产精度,降低了研制成本。当年,美国波音用777炫耀从设计到生产的无纸化模式,让中国人惊叹了一把。2000年,中国自己研发的这类软件开始出现在珠海航展展台。

———首次研制出我国具有完全独立自主知识产权的综合航电火控系统。它是目前国内包含分系统最多、管理武器最多、实现功能最多、扩展能力最强的航电火控系统。这项技术一直以来被国际严密封锁,也是制约中国战机战斗力的关键技术。唐长红说,综合航电火控系统就是飞机的脑袋,指挥飞机的神经系统。它的任务是: 看得远,打得准。

———建立了国内第一个虚拟产品管理系统标准。

老飞豹装着一颗“洋心”———英国斯贝发动机,新飞豹呢?唐长红很自豪地说:“新飞豹的发动机也为国产。”这是一个让人振奋的消息,一位飞机设计师说,中国具有一流的气动设计能力,但落后的发动机总拖后腿。

虽然有关数据不得披露,但新飞豹仍被认为是我国载弹能力最强、航程最远、作战半径最大的歼击轰炸机,可挂载多种精确制导武器和非制导武器,可实施敌防区外远程精确打击。它以对地、对海攻击和低空突防为主。去年,新飞豹受命参加中俄联合军演,在异域作战中,新飞豹超低空双机跟进齐射,发发命中。参加联合军演的各国官兵给予很高评价。

据悉,研制新飞豹B的是中航第一飞机设计研究院。“军令状”给一飞院的研制时间只是常规周期的一半,一飞院闯过了一道道难关,将战机的性能和战斗力提升了整整一代!

my speculation is that project may have started around mid-90's ,according to DIIC,plan to reengine JH-7 with AL-31F was abandone,but xian aircraft may have realized a complete new aircraft design around AL-31F or WS-10A to replace JH-7 could finally be achieved.
