I saw this link and the pix too, I don't think JH-7 will be the steathy fighter like that, that already total new plane, and that pix looks like computer-synthesized.

Re: JH-7/JH-7A Thread

I do not dismiss the idea of a stealthy JH. A few years ago, there was discussion that China might want to purchase Su-34 fighter bombers from Russia. Obviously that deal never came.

JH-7A turned out to be a very successful platform. There is now a EW version of it, like Growler. JH-7A is what China sent to the goodwill exercises with Russia. It's very well liked by PLANAF and PLAAF.

It stands to reason that China would need a fighter bomber. Not every air engagement will be defense or else a strategic offensive one. There is a need for a conventional offense air force. It also stands to reason that the maker of JH-7A will also make the new JH.

The new JH must be better than J-11B, and that means it must be as close to 5th generation as possible with external mounted weapons. It will likely look something like the F-35, but with greater emphasis on ground attack instead of air-to-air ability.

The result should look something like what's on the LCD screens.

The new JH may enter service before J-14 because it doesn't need supercruise or supermaneuverability. Its stealth doesn't even need to be that good since it will be carrying external weapons anyway. It should be comparable to J-10B because both are 4.5 generation. Based on China's trajectory of technology improvement, I think it will enter service maybe a few years after J-10B -- so maybe 2012-2013.

carrier kilers? more likely a sales gimick.
JH-7A by current standard are already obsolete,
Maybe as a fighter. As a bomber, the design may be more derelict and closer to something 3rd generatioon, but boy can it carry a load.

pictures of 82672, 82674, 82771
part of the 82x7x regiment, which is the 20th regiment in the 7th PLANAF division. This confirms the 5th JH-7/A regiment for PLANAF. Again, this replaces Q-5 regiment.
