JH-7/JH-7A/JH-7B Thread

I just don't understand why they waste money and resources on something just a little better than the previous one. Since it's externally unchanged (or not much changed), why don't they just upgrade existing aircraft to new standard?

Appearances can be deceiving, this thing has enough advances internally & structurally to not only replace old JH7 but also H6. I doubt old JH7 can be easily ungraded to this standard. Besides, you need to look more at the things it carries.
It'll play a big role in the first day of any naval warfare in the western Pacific.

According to CJDBY's official Weibo account, the new JH7B is equipped with new avionics, strengthened body/wings, retractable air-refueling nozzles, and all these improvements are made mainly for one thing, the new large supersonic YJ12 Missile.

In the same Weibo, CJDBY mentioned that the new missile will have a maximum effective range of 400km and a maximum speed of over 4 Machs.

I'm in Feiyang (****)'s official chatting group as well and I asked about this info with some of the "big shrimps" that's been quite reliable regarding Chinese military and got confirmation. Although specific number differ a bit. Some claim it's 400+ in range others say it's 380. But it's roughly around the 400km mark.

Btw they emphasized it's "maximum effective range" not "maximum range".

Now we are backing up one rumor with another rumor. Is this big shrimp the one who edits the Wikipedia article for the YJ-12?

To be fair, YJ-12 has been known as the "4/4" missile for quite a while now. 4/4 = Mach 4, 400 km of course.

The Wikipedia article on YJ-12 (which isn't that good tbh) probably gets its specifications from the rumours we've heard in preceding months.

Large photos of the rumors JH-7B. Do those pennant numbers tell anything?

I just realized the plane with the number on its port side nose is a mirrored image of the other, PSed with the number and the little false details to suggest IFR probe.

I'm not sure if this is the real JH-7B or not.
