That's the president's website.
How much more official can it even get?

Likely actual azeri ones are in production - this one is either an exhibition piece, or a temporary substitute.

Yeah I just read the news as well. Congrats on third customer?

I wonder if the performance of JF-17 Block 3 during last year’s Indus Shield exercise, of which Azerbaijan was an observer, helped seal the deal.

Probably. It's a good and reasonably priced choice, too.

It is ironic that relatively rich Azerbaijan went for a small, cheap fighter it could comfortably afford, while Armenia bought 4 long-range parade fighters for a country smaller than Maryland.

interesting how they'll match preferable(turkish) with available(chinese/pakistani) weapon systems. Like, som?

The point is not to not believe the source or the news, that Azerbaijan purchased them, but to be surprised and find an explanation why this particular aircraft undeniably carries still PAF markings! As such it surprises me to present the own Air Force's latest toy behind the president NOT in my own Air Force's markings!

IMHO actual Azeri aircraft don't yet exist.
Maybe, just maybe, they will actually get some from Pakistani stock and will be repainted soon, but it doesn't seem likely - those blk IIIs are super new, so what's the point of such transfer. It's not like Azerbaijan is at war...

Come on ... everyone can modify Wiki and do you really think they have already 14 in service, no-one noticed or reported this and now they present a PAF one as "ours"?

There has been a few precedences from other aircraft manufacturers that during the marketing stage, an in-servise fighter jet from the intended seller country be painted with roundel of the prespective customer.

So the photo was likely an old one before the sales constract was penned.

If you want top of the line BVR capabilities with AESA radar it is the best valued option for sure. Unless Armenia really ups its game in terms of fighter asset I don’t really see the point in buying anything more expensive.

Would these Azeri JF-17s be engined with WS-13s or RD-93s? Because Azerbaijan is an enemy of Armenia so I would think that Russia will be a significant obstacle in exporting the fighters to Azerbaijan. Is this an indication of Russia finally having enough with Armenia's recent antics with the US or the WS-13 being used for this batch of fighters?

Not really an issue. Russia sold Azerbaijan T-90 tanks, BMP-3 IFVs, and other systems. Right now Russia has better relations with the Azeris than the Armenians.
