PAKISTAN RAISES SECOND SQUADRON OF JF-17 BLOCK III FIGHTER JETS
The Pakistan Aeronautical Complex JF-17 Thunder Block-3, a state-of-the-art multirole 4.5/4+ generation fighter squadron, will be raised by the Pakistan Air Force and stationed in Karachi. This would be accomplished by reintroducing the number-plated and retired No. 8 "Haiders" Squadron into service. The upcoming months will witness the completion of the delivery, full induction, and operationalization of the twelve and a half Block III units, culminating in the raising of the main JF-17C Block III multirole squadron in the PAF's Southern Air Command, situated at PAF Base Masroor, Karachi.
Earlier, the No. 8 ‘Haiders’ Squadron had been tasked with (initially) maritime strike and later tactical attack missions in the Dassault Mirage VPA2/3 strike aircraft since 1983.
In January 2023, the No. 8 Squadron received a new number plate as the Pakistan Air Force is gradually retiring hundreds of Mirage III and V aircraft across multiple squadrons. These will be replaced with JF-17C and J-10C, which are a high-performance combination of fourth-generation plus fourth-and fifth-generation advanced fighter aircraft.
