JF-17/FC-1 Fighter Aircraft thread

What jamming pods do JF-17s carry? Do you mean KG600? It's such a low powered fighter. If a jamming pod from a light fighter can devastate MKI and Mirage 2000s with such ease, a similar tech pod on a heavy weight twin engine would make this the most important piece of military technology. Maybe the Pakistanis collected enough sensitive details on Mirage 2000 and MKI sensors and electronics somehow to pull off such an amazing feat that we're entertaining here or they were assisted by something not mentioned. There isn't a great amount of difference between JF-17 + F-16 and Mirage 2000s + MKI etc. The Erieye isn't a EA or EW platform at all. That wasn't it. It provided PAF with great situational awareness no doubt but it does not jam anything or pull ECCM tricks.

If it was simply JF-17's jamming at the frontline and while in return, somehow also degraded MKI and M2000s enough for them to be useless throughout the event, then that is mighty impressive EW/EA in such a relatively "low end" package too or the IAF is much, much less competent than people realise. Maybe they used something else that isn't mentioned.

Jamming isn’t just about raw power. Higher maximum power output is only really an advantage if you are going with a dumb brute force full spectrum jam. That’s really a last resort in EW since doing so would blind yourself just as much as the enemy.

I know that the Chinese takes EW exceptionally seriously. Their world leading expertise in civilian telecoms and electronics would give them a rich and deep talent pool and highly stilled labour and cutting edge technologies for use in developing their EW since there is significant overlap between the fields.

China is also in an unique position of having had a wide range of state of the art Russian radars, missiles and EW to play around with ranging from Flankers (Su35 especially), warships, SAMs, missiles and jamming pods.

While obviously there are going to be a lot of difference between systems, there will also still be a lot of similarities between all the Russian kit owing to them being made by the same companies and maybe even designers after all. As such, the changes between systems are more likely evolutionary rather than revolutionary. Especially on core aspects like underlying physics theory used and specific application of techniques and solutions.

Especially for the MKI, which you need to remember was designed at a time of effective collapse in the Russian aerospace industry due to the lingering effects of the collapse of the USSR. As such, the pace of innovation would have been significantly slower, and the Russians probably used and reused off-the-shelf tech and solitons more than they should or normally would have in finalising the MKI and its BARs radar, which may have left it a lot more vulnerable than it should have been to someone with access to other Russian radars of the same time aka China.

In short, China has the means and will to develop world class EW, and it’s access to Russian systems from its own purchases likely gave its already formidable EW another significant boost.

On balance, this is probably Chinese EW over-performing due to the specific system them encountered. While I expect Chinese EW to be formidable, it’s probably not going to be as devastating if used against non-Russian systems.

Doubt, this photo is old allegedly, there’s nothing that looks block 3 like on this airframe, the photo is too unclear to make out the MAWS on the inlet, however, it looks to be an old photo of a block 2 maybe
Fuselage of blk 3. Blk 2 production has halted since January as we switched to blk 3. Pic may be blurry but maws on intakes is visible. The pic is two months old.

If that is the Block III fuselage it would be there for the start of serial production. That would be surprising given the lack of news.

Hmm, but that wasn't "live combat" though. Combat kind of requires both sides to be able to shoot at each other. Otherwise, it's just target practice.
I don't see why being able to shoot at each other is mandatory for 'live combat'. The Super Hornet was credited with its first A2A kill when it shot down a defenseless 1960-era Syrian attack jet, which (AFAIK) was not carrying any AAMs.
