The acquisition of the JF-17 by the Burmese armed forces was

The exterior elements of this first JF-17M (?) Indicate that it is a Block II standard device. Originally developed by the 611 Chengdu Institute of the Chinese aircraft manufacturer AVIC for the needs of the Pakistani Air Force, the JF-17 Block II includes a detachable refueling pole, an improved avionics suite that allows the aircraft To exchange data with the AWACS ZDK-03 , a wider range of Air-Surface weapons and electronic warfare pods.

The mere fact that Burmese air forces have no airplanes or AWACS at the moment, and that this first aircraft is manufactured in Chengdu, China, and not Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC) in Kamra, suggests that Burma would have Requested customized changes based on the Block II standard, changes that require the first copies to be made by the design office and the original factory.

Apart from Pakistan and Burma as the first and second customer of this light combat aircraft designed exclusively for the export market by the Chinese aircraft manufacturer, Nigeria also revealed

and thus becomes the third country to acquire the aircraft.

Sri Lanka, which appears to be interested in acquiring six JF-17s, has allegedly sent pilots to China to carry out tests.

To be continued.

In my 23 years of tracking this project, I have seen, read, heard many skeptics & naysayers. I am just so glad that this little bird, planned and executed out of frustration with F-16 embargo has come along as such a tidy little success. Seeing it in another country's colors is such a welcome sight.

Does anyone know if JF-17M has any extra or different features from the standard JF-17 Block II.
I think any extra features of blockII will be inducted for PAF asap e.g. AESA or any other upgrade features
Thx

Indian already killed that deal in 2016

But seems like Sri Lanka is still pushing for these units and I really really hope they buy

Start of the export period for JF17 has started all the critics must be hiding

Thunder what a wonder

The only country which Sri Lanka has ever had issues with is India. Since JF-17 in its design and evolution is quite India-centric from the beginning, it should make a great choice for Sri Lanka. I hope they get a squadron of JF-17 Block III or Block II with air-cooled AESA radars. This shall secure their air-space and maritime interests very well against any misadventure.

The JF17 supplied to Myanmar is missing the nose cone pitot tube, date i say it may have the air cooled AESA or it under development still.
